Passionate when it comes to my canine companions as well as dogs everywhere, it's my mission to raise awareness of any issues that affect them, from their health, food and nutrition and training to their welfare. Canine advocacy is something that everyone who cares about dogs needs to be aware of and we all need to share that and raise our voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Check this Out – Pit Bull Blues

This one is for all you dog and pitbull lovers out there, a great song by John Shipe. Gives you a taste of what pitbull owners go through and the misconceptions about this often wonderful and amazing breed of dog.

Pitbulls, once one of the most beloved breeds in America, commonly called the nanny dog, are now the most maligned and abused “breed” of dog. Called vicious, dangerous, banned and killed just for their appearance.

Check out the meanies in this vid! If you’re anything like me, you’ll play it a couple of times. Enjoy!

Lyrics are below the video just in case you want to join in. :)

PIT BULL BLUES
by John Shipe

People see me walking down the street they all run and hide.
I used to take it personally now I take it in strides.
I got nothing against no one I wouldn’t hurt a fly.
People seem to think I’m mean and here’s why, and here’s why

I’m a pitbull,
A big brown red nose pitbull,
A tooth baring muscle bound pitbull,
l I look like I can tear the seal off a loco motive freight train.

People park three spaces away when I’m waiting in the car.
All the kids in the neighborhood they never walk through my yard.
And there’s a rumor floating around the county that I ate three cats.

But I swear from the bottom of my K9 heart I didn’t do that.
Nooo I didn’t do that.

But I’m a pitbull,
A big brown red nose pitbull,
A tooth baring muscle bound pitbull,
I look Like I can dig a hole through a concrete wall.

yaaa.

I got these pitbull blues,
All I want to do is sniff your shoes.
I aint no killer hound
Though I’m the friendliest dog in town.

The shear sound of my bark can break through artic ice.
Deep down I’m a pussy cat, I’m just trying to be nice.
In case you didn’t notice I’m wagging my tail at the speed of light.
But no matter what I do I’m accused of looking for a fight.

yaaa

Cause I’m a pitbull,
A big brown red nose pitbull,
A tooth baring muscle bound pitbull,
I look like I can crush a cannonball with my jaws

That was beautiful D., and it is how these wonderful pittis are. They are sweet, loving and very devoted memebers of many families. I resent and regret that they have gotten such a bad reputation thru the years, only by the hands of morons who do not train them properly, and use them for monetary gain.

Kudos to John and all that work with this wonderful breed. I have seen many pits on rescues, and the most terrible thing they have done to me is get my face washed over and over again with pitti slobber all over me.

I know it Susie and you know that I take any chance I can to show people just how wonderful these babies can be! Just keep hoping that one day…. they will again be the venerated breed they one were.

Thanks for posting this! We always sing this to our pitties when they are being big babies (which is…always.) :) I just don’t understand how anyone can see those smushfaces and not want to reach through the screen and squeeze them! I feel sorry for anyone who lets fear and propaganda interfere with their chance to know a pit bull’s love.

    I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks for posting!!!

  • This song is so true! What a lovely song.

My sweet friend, Maria Daines, who writes the most amazing music for animals recently wrote a song for the pitties after she rescued one to add to her very large family of doggies. She also wrote a song for Bruce, the precious boy who has spent 2 years in an Irish hell hole just for LOOKING LIKE a pit. He was sentenced to death on 7/6, but the worldwide public outcry, aided by Maria and her husband Paul Killington, resulted in a stay of execution. Sadly, unless the northern Ireland law is changed and made retroactive, he will die.

Here are the links to both songs. Bruce’s story is on the page with his song. Please sign his petition and write some letters to help save this precious life. Also, check out her Spot the Pitbull link on Bruce’s page. Amazing.

  • Candi

    Awesome!! Loved it!!

  • bowiesminion

ohhhhh that was so sweet. Ive got a Catahoula Leopard and he gets the same reactions, also as he has clear eyes of different colors people think he is blind…. he’s a 95 pound lapdog!
    And he is a rescue.

    • Susie

Oh Catahoulas are such sweet babies too. Until I got into rescue, I did not know of that breed at all. They are big lapdogs, but they also are silly goofs at times!

Thanks for rescuing your big baby.

  • Joan

I loved the song and I wish alot of people who don’t understand the breed would see and learn what mushes these dogs are. My pit has been dead since 1992, but I think about him everyday.

  • Missy's mommy

This is awesome, it really does the babies justice. I wish they would play it on the news instead of “killer pitbulls”. I was much like the rest of the public and had a lack of understand the breed not too long ago until my husband brought my little Missy home one day…it was love at first site of course but she has really changed my way of thinking. She got out of the fence one night and a twelve year old boy brought her home he said that his grandfather saw her and jumped over a neighbors fence and ran home. he said she charged him full speed and started licking him so he dicided to walk her back home and ask us for a ride back to his grandparents house! I’m sure grandma wasn’t to happy to hear that her grandson was left to fend for himself against the viscous pitbull!
