Animals are not toys that you grow tired of and just throw them away. These people may be in dire financial straights, but haven't they ever heard of shelters or rescues who could take these animals in? I have a very good friend who lives in Indiana who does rescue work and they saved 2 dogs in a mobile home who had been deserted by the owner and both dogs had been living off of the third dead dog to survive. She has since adopted the basset hound, named John, and he is doing so much better and has begun to put on weight again. You are right, Deanna, this is only going to get worse before it gets better.
