Passionate when it comes to my canine companions as well as dogs everywhere, it's my mission to raise awareness of any issues that affect them, from their health, food and nutrition and training to their welfare. Canine advocacy is something that everyone who cares about dogs needs to be aware of and we all need to share that and raise our voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Every municipality official should be required to watch this video, and perhaps, if there hard hearts and closed pocket books would open, our nation’s homeless animals would actually have a refuge and shelter in municipal shelters. Thanks for sharing a great message – spread the message.

    • Admin

We can always hope but I admit I no longer have as much faith as I used to. Problem is, messages like this never seem to get to the people who need it the most, only the people who already know.

its so sad. it maked me cry. i wish every one had to watch this.

D, that was the most heartbreaking but true video of the plight of our homeless animals. And yes, the tissues were well needed.

As Netanya says, it should be seen by every municipality, but even moreso, every governmental official, no matter what his/her position is. These lawmakers are all coldhearted bastards in my eyes, and with what has happened with our economy, the foreclosures across the nation, our government is to blame; thus the influx of homeless dogs and cats.

My suggestion, email this link to every legislator in your state, every local official, and even the President of the United States, along with all his cabinet members. The more that those who care that can send this poignant message, the better off our homeless shelter babies will be.

Do what I did and post it on your FB, MySpace and anything else. Word will get around. Yes, I cried and cried. Just looking at that poor dog and all those others. How could someone leave him out in the rain like that? It looked like this person took their own life and just left the dog there. If you missed it, watch it again, you’ll see the legs of a person standing on the rail of bridge. I know things are bad, but rather than just leave your pet and do away with yourself. Find that pet a good home and who knows someone may come up with an idea for you to keep that pet. There are so many options and PEOPLE just don’t think sometimes. I am glad that dog was rescued. What a beautiful song too. I just rescued two little pups. I only wanted one, but they were sisters and I couldn’t bare to leave one behind. I am going to figure out how to send this good old Arnold of CA. Maybe this would wake him up. He says he has a pet too. Thanks for sharing. I have some work to do to figure out how to get this across. Need to figure out how to get this to the Obama kids.

All of our legislators, state wide and federal, have email addresses. The White House has one, and each of our senators and congressmen have them. Look up your states information as to “contact”, and there will be a link. Copy and paste this link in the body of your email, along with your written note – it does make a difference if we all work together on this.

      • Admin

You’re so right Sue, we can make a difference, one by one and all together! People just need to stop thinking they can’t do anything and get off their butts and try, be proactive, make a difference!!

There is a link at the bottom of every post so that any of these stories or videos can be emailed and shared easily as well as links to all the major social media sites.

        D.

Thanks Moe for sharing this. There are links to share this is a lot of the social media sites at the bottom of the post as well as a link to email it. The further we can get this out, the more people who see it, hopefully, the more of a difference it can make! People need to see, to know, to understand.

We all shed our tears enough because we do know. People who don’t need to see this and maybe crack the ice so many of them have for hearts!

No NO NO NO MORE D….I can not stop crying. Please don’t show any more of these. They are heart wrenching!! I know they make a very good point, but this one just about killed me! And I wanted to become a part of Animal Control. Thanks for the reminder of why I prayed NOT to get that job, because it has come up again and THIS time, I will NOT put in for it! I can’t! I could never drag thaose little fur babies down that isle….NEVER! OMG….my heart is breaking!

    • Admin

Aw Jess, I am so sorry!! This was a really tough one, it broke my heart and had me in tears too and I watch so many you’d think I would have build up at least a little immunity by now. I honestly didn’t think you would be ale to even watch it because you can’t get most vids. I could never do it either Jess, never, for any amount of money!

      Hugs,
      D.

    • Susie

Jess, remember we talked about you not getting the job. It was in His grand plan for you.

I know this hit you hard, probably as bad as it hit me, but, aren’t we the voices for those who cannot speak for themselves? Pull those boot straps up, and email this link to every contact you have; the more it gets around to the general public, you will be making a statement for all of those babies who have gone to the bridge, not by choice.

I sent this to a couple television contacts I have. By Monday, I might have a response from them, and maybe they will have the guts to show it on a newscast. Public awareness, be the voice my dear. The babies in the shelters depend on us. And I am not telling you what to do, or yelling at you. You have the same beliefs as I do and as D has. We can do it.

this is why serious laws need enforced about puppy mills.
As currently written, Chloe’s Bill would:

Limit to 20 the number of unaltered dogs a breeder may possess
Ban anyone convicted of felony-level animal cruelty from acquiring a dog-breeding license
Prohibit wire flooring in commercial breeding facilities and create guidelines for appropriate heating, cooling and ventilation
Require pet stores and breeders to provide customers with a dog’s full medical history
Establish penalties for violations, ranging from fines to animal seizure and license revocation

20 dogs? with pups too? that is still to many to give quality care and medical, and nutrisious food. have you not noticed the ads for adoption of pets and shelters that beg for help before putting an animal to euthanazia?

    1. no more than 5 -7 unaltered dogs
    2. all dogs must have a license, medical records, breeding papers of their heritage
    3. each dog must be given a breeding license purchased each time dog is bred- this would benefit the breeding dogs health, the puppies health and bring in revenue to the county
    4. before breeding & obtaining the ” breeding ” license, each dog should be examined by law by a renouned Veterinarian for health and passing breeding issues like hip dysplasia, other gentic faults.
    5. no breeding bitch should be bred and have more than 3 litters in her life time.
    6. to stop fraud breeding very strict guide lines for breeders including DNA , finger prints sample and photo ID – this to prevent convicted animal abusers for obtaining an animal breeding lisence, and /or falsefying proof ( like use someone else name ).
    7. regular inspections of breeders and their kennels with out notice of arrival of Inspectors.
    8. Establish strict penalties for violations, ranging from fines to animal seizure and license revocation, jail time without bargaining and no community sevice instead of jail time.
    9. Require pet stores and breeders to provide customers with a dog’s full medical history and registered AKC papers.
    10. Prohibit wire flooring in commercial breeding facilities and create guidelines for appropriate heating, cooling and ventilation , and cleaning procedure of kennels
    11. complete investigations of any dead animal on their premisis..

Carol, You have to realize that each state will have different rules and regulations regarding this bill. I know D has also kept up on these upcoming laws, some which only need the signature of the governor of said states. This bill is not an across the board bill thruout the nation. Each state has altered it to fit their state requirements.

I do have some issues with the bill in my state. I feel, only because I know many REPUTABLE breeders, and these reputable breeders are taking back dogs that they have sold in the past few years, because the families either have fallen to foreclosure, lost jobs due to the economy and no longer feed and care for the dogs. What is this law going to do for the reputable breeders who do take their dogs back? I in my heart of hearts, I believe that it is the puppy millers who are not going to take any dogs back, especially if the new owners have neutered or spayed the dog, because the dog would be worthless to him/her.

Yes, some of their new rules and regulations are in the best interests of all breeders, but I truly believe they are going to hurt the reputable breeders in the long run.

Why did you bring this up tho Carol? The laws have nothing to do with the topic of this video, but, being as active as I am in rescue work, I had to make my statement regarding these upcoming laws.

  • carol

Dear Deanna, I brought this up because this video shows dogs being euthanized and shelters overflowing with unwanted dogs- many of which do come from customers who got their dog/puppy from puppy mills.I know there are respectable breeders out there- I was one of them once. But even they can over breed their dogs. I believe the Chloe law should be the same throughout the States. Something has to change to protect first & foremost the dogs. I am aware foreclosures have put pet owners in a sad delima- something should be done to help them keep their dogs in the family- what exactly -I do not know at this point. All in all this is a serious and heartbreaking situation that needs serious re-work so shelters become a thing of the past…and every dog is wanted and has a loving home with good responsible owners. I am for the dogs.

    • Susie

I do not think shelters per se, should be a thing of the past. The High Kill shelters should be. There are so many NO KILL shelters out there, and the rescues work with both the no kill and high kill shelters. This has been a serious problem for years, and I have aided helping take the dogs out of the high kill shelters, to give them a new future with a new furever home.

Almost everyone here on D’s site are for the dogs. But, we all have to volunteer, in one way or another to help the homeless dogs. I work full time, but most of my off work time is spent volunteering for animals. I have not transported since a decline in my own health, but there is so much a person can do to help. I have taken on the national registry right now, but rescues, transport coordinators, interent posters are always in need. We also need fosters, because without the foster parents, we cannot pull the dogs that are in the high kill shelters.

As far as keeping the dogs with the families, this is difficult, as most of the people in foreclosure are going into an apartment, and most apartment building owners do not allow pets of any kind in their buildings. If there was a way to keep pets/families together, I am sure that that would have been in the works already.

  • Jessie

Maybe, that’s where we should be targeting our fight! Towards Apartment owners, etc. to allow pets in such a trying time as we are all facing today. Maybe with a small fee, to protect them against damages. However NO rules for declawing cats and other ancient practices that should be outlawed. Any thoughts on this one….anyone?

  • Why did they feature the dog and then have the word “Euthanized” only to later tell us he was rescued? That was horrible.

I understand that the magnitude of euthanasia is something the public must be made aware of, however, this video inspires overwhelming feelings of helplessness. I understand that is what shelter workers deal with every day, but the message of the video is that there is nothing we can do, it just paints a portrait of mass euthanasias. Then, through the video, it gets us emotionally to care about one dog — we watch him walk toward the door, hoping that he is walking out into the sun to his new home. This would give us HOPE, make us realize we CAN save some of them, but intead, a picture of him, or a dog that looks very much like him, is flashed with the word “Euthanized” at the end, and we realize with horror that the dog we watch was walking to be put down. Only AFTER that do you tell us he was spared, resulting in creating feelings of anger and being manipulated emotionally by your audience.

This video is not going to get people involved in rescue movement because it offers no hope. It will make people recoil in horror at something heartbreaking that you have helped them believe they can do nothing about.
