Pets… A Commitment, Not a Convenience! By Deanna, on February 6th, 2013 | They said they loved me… I thought we were going to the park to play… but when we got here they took off my pretty collar… and drove away… how will anyone know who I am… how will I get home… when will they come back…. I’ll just wait here… they said they loved me…

NEWS TO NOTE Just an FYI - If you don't follow us on Facebook, at least take a second to check out our Facebook postings below. All kinds of fun, interesting and new stuff that doesn't always get posted here on the website!
My Mission Deanna Raeke Dog Lover & Proud Pet Parent
Passionate when it comes to my canine companions as well as dogs everywhere, it's my mission to raise awareness of any issues that affect them, from their health, food and nutrition and training to their welfare. Canine advocacy is something that everyone who cares about dogs needs to be aware of and we all need to share that and raise our voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.
For the Love of the Dog is my small effort to do that. Please, won't you help me!

From the mom – I hope you don’t mind but I did share this on my FB wall – it does make one sad but it makes me just as angry because it does really happen – way too often./ I cannot even fathom doing such a deed.
Mom Kim
Like you said Kim, it is sad but true… and if it can bring some awareness, it makes it worth the time to create it and share the message. Thank you for helping!

I don’t know if anything will come of it but one of our local news stations – have several of it’s reporters who have FB pages. I did share it with one and asked if maybe some kind of follow-up could be done such as reporting on various resources we have here like our shelter which is newly remodeled – greatly improved and bigger plus the many rescues we have in our area. Sometimes rehoming, although sad, is the better option. I hope you don’t mind.

Something to think about–yes, these four-legged babies do have feelings. To do this to any of them is unforgivable evil. This is why we as a society, just as we now generally forbid housing discrimination against families with children, must have strict laws that, absent good, individualized cause (such as a pet that damages an apartment or proves dangerous to others), forbids landlords from discriminating against people with pets. Landlords, like employers, have a great deal of power over people’s lives, power that is often arbitrary and abused and must thus be strictly regulated.
This made me cry… One of our rescued pitties was dumped by her owner – had recently had puppies and was emaciated, no collar – and that is probably what happened to her. Neither of our dogs like it at all when you take off their collars. They know it means they are owned and loved.
Too depressing! I would never ever dump my pet.
sad tears:(
My dog was a ‘found dog’ from the shelter and it was obvious she had been abused. Over a year later she is still coming out of her shell, but doing great nonetheless.
