I don’t generally post DNA or such but I received this today and know that a lot of people involved in rescue and transport and people who have friends and associates involved in this read FTLTD and this was too important not to pass on. Although this warning is aimed specifically at certain areas, anyone and everyone can benefit by following it. Dogfighters are everywhere and will resort to the most underhanded methods to get their hands on dogs, for either bait or fighting!
Please, share this with anyone you know who may be involved in rescue or know some one involved in rescue. Don’t let these scum of the earth get hold of anymore innocent helpless animals to use, abuse, torture and kill!!

IMPORTANT – Kankakee , IL dog fighting bust around the 1st week in August. This stopped only a few and slowed down the competition.
Many of the communities in and around the Kankakee area are out looking for dogs. This came from a meeting on the dog fighting in the Chicago area and this information was given to me by very reliable sources because. My sources tell me that women and older women are the people who are applying to adopt and rescue dogs from Pounds and Rescues to replace the dogs that were taken from them and to sell them to anyone who have the buck. There are many of them out there making money off of selling these dogs which are then abused, tortured and killed. They are very experienced at telling you want you want to hear, just to get the dogs willing even to pay you for the dogs.
This message is for all the Rescues who have bully breed dogs. Please be careful of the people you adopt these dogs to. Check out their references, especially their Vet references that they took any dog they had to, find out what happened to the dog. Be sure of the neighborhood they are living in. We want to find homes for all the dogs but, we don’t want them to go into a bad saturation where they could be used for fighting, or even as a bait dog.
Please, please check out where you are placing your dogs. With the economy in the dumps, there is big money in dog fighting and selling these dogs. These people are not apposed to putting information down on their applications that you want to hear because they are experienced on filling out these applications.
You want to make sure your rescue dogs are not the ones found dead or picked up by animal control on another bust. This can and would hurt your Rescue and your rescue efforts. Don’t put them into another place where they can be abused, tortured and killed.
I know this isn’t something the folks in rescue work want to hear. But, you cannot take people at face value when it comes to the life of one of our dogs. You do need home checks unannounced and any other means you can to insure the safety of the dogs. Chec k out and ask for more personal references. I have even checked with the Police Dept in an area if I am not familiar with and have refused to let any of mine go on the advice of the Police Dept and type of crime in the area.
Don’t mean to harp on how careful we have to be. It is just upsetting when I see the pictures of the dead dogs and how they died. I hate looking at the pictures, but have to see if maybe one of mine was in the group. And know how the people who do this are, They are only sorry because they got caught.
Although many people on this site are not in rescue D., I agree that it is a very important notice to all as to what these scumbags are out there doing. They have resorted to preying on old ladies now. Grrrrrrrrrr

No, you missed the point here completely! The old ladies are the ones DOING the calling to get these pitbulls for dogfighting. Not the victims. People will trust an old lady looking for a companion, so they have recruited some old ladies (well, they are hardly LADIES if they are doing this stuff) to do the calling for them. I know I got an application for a pitbull I have in my rescue from an old lady in Arizona. I didnt even consider it.
Chanel227, I know who is doing the calling out there for pit bulls. I am not missing the point. These scumbags are recruiting the old ladies. I totally understand it.
And also, I too am involved in rescue, and work mainly with labs, but have been on occasion asked to re home a pitti. I would rather leave that to people who have more knowledge on pittis than I, but I most certainly will do a home visit for any rescue who needs help.
What the hell is happening , I think your president should possibly look into a large anti dog fighting type of swat team .This is getting out of control and something major has to be done soon

This really got me, as it is not very far from where I live. When I do placements, I honestly become the biggest bitch, being so over protective, and checking the potential adoptors out completely. I even go so far as to talk to the neighbors, people where they work, and even the local police dept if I do not feel comfortable at one thing or another.
It has been out of control for a long time, and I think that although I hate and despise Vick, he has brought more attention to this cruel spectacle. It has got to stop, and the rescuers work so hard to find these dog fighting rings, and work with the police to shut this down. And it is so funny, out of all the pittis I have ever transported, all they want is love and attention, and love to give you big sloppy kisses. These jerks that fight them have no clue as to what the companionship and love a dog can give to a human.
As far as the president looking into a large anti dog fighting swat team – personally I don't think that that will ever happen. He will screw that up also, just like he has screwed up the healthcare system.
I see you have to be very careful in placement, but how can you be sure .So many dogs need homes especially Pitts that I'm sure some slip through the cracks. As far as a swat team , they will find drugs and guns also so it can eliminate scum .What the hell is the HSUS going to do , ask the scum to play nice or be a spokes person for anti dog fighting?

Hell, if we could start a hotline – where no one would come back to the caller – I would certainly do it, if I had others to help.
There needs to be a special group of team members to deal with this. Yes, most of these dog fighting rings are also involved in narcotics and guns.
When our government accepts that this is a major problem in our society, and with the urging of people like us, they might consider doing something about it.

Why don't we start a petition for the President about dog fighting. I know that there are many sites out there aside from this one that really care about dogs and I am sure they will all join in. Something to think about. This is what the UNITED States is all about, being United.
Moego1, what a fabulous idea! I have never started a petition, but I am sure someone on this site is familiar with it. I would be able to forward the petition to some of the national posters and have many in rescue sign it!
This applies not only to those supplying dog-fightering individuals and rings, but also to “dealer-bunchers,” who collect “Free to Good Home” animals for sale to school labs, medical researchers, military wound testers and so forth. There are also individuals who will collect giveaways for their own purposes, such as a guy I knew in college who “adopted” kittens to save himself the cost of live rabbits to feed his snake (not that a rabbit’s life is necessarily of less value than that of a dog or cat; it’s just that the person going to the bother of placing the ad should not be deceived in this way [when I was keeping a python for a friend overseas I came up with a way to feed it grocery store chicken, which, at least, reduced the number of lives required]). They not only recruit sweet old ladies to catch people off-guard, they often bring along children.
Those who let their pets breed with the blithe comment, “Oh, I always manage to find homes for them” are as culpable as the animal exploiters, maybe moreso as it is is simple laziness and apathy that makes these animals available for such cruelty.

OUR President, yeah like he cares about animals. There are only a couple things he cares about, like getting his face on TV when he doesn't know what he is even saying, and it certainly is not animals. Don't even get me started on that, well, man.

It's for this reason that I never surrender a rescued Pitbull or any of the similar "Bully" breeds that fall under that general description. Whenever I take in a Pit, et al…I either place the dog personally with someone who I know…or who somebody that I know has vouched for.
I have two here…both rescues…that have stolen my heart and wormed their way into a permanent home. The little female pup, Kaay…is available for adoption, but the interested party had better prepare for a pretty intensive and possibly intrusive background check. Otherwise…katy is here and here she'll stay.
Whenever I hear of people fighting these great dogs…it makes me want to hit somebody.

The other's name is Littleman. He's been with me for 5 years.
Picked up nearly dead from starvation and dehydration. He couldn't even get to his feet to run from me…which is the only reason that I was able to catch him when I did. I'd been trying for 3 weeks. A real clown who is completely goofy over children, and the smaller they are…the goofier he gets. He's partial to little girls.
