Melissa Bell Bailey
When we talk about rescue dogs it usually refers to dogs that are rescued by people and although that still holds true in this case, when you read the story, you will see that perhaps the dog was more the rescuer…

This beautiful girl is Princess Chloe, rescued off the streets days after a dark and depressing Christmas… a bit of a Christmas miracle, perhaps…

The story comes from Melissa Bell Bailey and I’ll let her share it in her own words…

This is my girl, Princess Chloe. Within three months, we lost our son-in-law, in a motorcycle accident; our sweet Bubba dog, who died suddenly on a Saturday night; and our Whitey Woof, a blind wolf mix who gave up on life after his brother Bubba died. We were beyond devastated. Three days after a very dark and sad Christmas, Chloe literally found me – she was running around in a busy street, dragging a 20 pound towing chain that was attached to her collar, which someone had used to stake her out in the cold winter weather. When I called her, she immediately came to me. She hopped right in my car, and seemed to already know us, as well as the layout of our home! She has been with us 2 & 1/2 years, and is the perfect girl. We’ve watched her blossom from a serious girl who rarely wagged her tail into a joyful young woman. She saved us from our grief, and taught us how to open our hearts again. She goes to work every day with my husband, who is an electrical inspector, but she is Mama’s girl. I wish I could describe all the way that she has changed our lives for the better, but anyone who has (or has had) their true “heart dog” already knows what I am talking about….

Ah yes, “heart dog”… I know all about a heart dog and am lucky enough to have mine now although she’s in her senior years and you can see time has taken its toll on her.  Jezzie’s a bit slower but still can be as feisty and sassy as can be when she wants, and who knows what it is but of all the dogs I’d had and between the two I have now, there’s something about her that touches me  bi more… a bit deeper… yes, definitely heart dog…
