baileyNow we all know that sometimes dogs eat strange things, often whatever they can get their mouths around.  Just imagine if you took your dog to the vet for its annual checkup and the vet called and told you that your pet had a tumor and would need surgery.  Scary!

Well, this was the case for Nicola Perrett and her Golden Retriever, Bailey. Perret, who lives in the UK, noticed that Baily has been losing some weight and when she took him to the vet for his checkup got a call that left her in tears; the vet said Bailey had a tumor.

Perrett authorized surgery but what the vet found turned out to be not a tumor but an entire selection of clothing items including two golf gloves, two rugby gloves, one mitten, one stocking and nine socks. Oh, there was also a piece of a towel in there.

Perrett’s son said the rugby gloves had been missing for two years!

What’s even more amazing is that Baily hasn’t gotten seriously sick or had any really noticeable problems from his long time ingestion of non-food items.

Vet Keith Moore from the Hillside Veterinary Centre in Corfe Mullen, Dorset, said: “It is amazing that he was not more unwell or sick but was still eating his food. This huge mass in his abdomen was picked up on a routine check-up for his epilepsy.”

“Vets obviously do a fair number of foreign object removals but I doubt I will ever see anything like this again in my career. Even for us, from a vet’s point of view, it was pretty amazing. It was like doing a magic trick. We were just pulling out one sock after another.”

Well, Bailey has recovered and is home with his happy and relieved family, no doubt looking for his next munchable!

Now for pups and peeps, I think a little wise advise from Bruti might be in order regarding pooches purloining unedibles, take a minute and take in his woofs here! And if you’re interested, you can find out more weird stuff that dogs eat here.
