Dog Lover & Proud Pet Parent

Passionate when it comes to my canine companions as well as dogs everywhere, it's my mission to raise awareness of any issues that affect them, from their health, food and nutrition and training to their welfare. Canine advocacy is something that everyone who cares about dogs needs to be aware of and we all need to share that and raise our voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Where Does Your State Stand on Animal Protection Laws?

ALDF (Animal Legal Defense Fund) recently complied a report showing where the US states and territories rank based on their animal protection laws including the top and bottom five states.  It’s quite an eye opener as it details specific strengths and weaknesses.  It’s broken down into tiers; top, middle and bottom.  Where does your state [...]

Puppy Mill Law Biting Hard

Good news for Puppy Mill opponents.  In Pennsylvania, instead of breeding dogs, they’re “milking cows.”  In an article appearing in the Lancaster Online, Edwin Zeiset, a kennel owner licensed to breed up to 500 dogs a year said he had no choice but to shut down.  Pennsylvania’s new regulations are biting hard at dog breeders. [...]

“Bait Dog” Left for Dead Slowly Recovering

This sweet little pitbull girl was found curled in a ball, covered in scars and open wounds, whimpering and shivering beside a wooded area next to Smithfield Road near Turtle Park Parkway. She had makeshift sutures where someone had attempted to close wounds and her ears where close cropped. Lieutenant Alan Borgal, director [...]

High School Program Helps Needy Dogs and Students

At the Edison Academy in Fairfax County, students get much more than the three “R”s; reading, ‘riting and ‘rithmatic, they get hands on training to go out in the real world and for students enrolled in the two-year Animal Sciences program also get to help foster and shelter dogs get ready to find new homes.  One [...]

A Shelter Dog’s Christmas Poem

As you gather this holiday season to spend time with friends and family and your own beloved furry family members, take just a moment to think of those dogs and cats who sit alone and unwanted, with just the barest of necessities.

Gather up some old blankets and towels, maybe grab an extra bag of treats [...]

Quick Updates on a Few Cases

Here’s some updates on a few cases that I’ve previously covered; we’ve got a small measure of justice, some potential justice and what will probably amount to a slap on the wrist but at least justice in a guilty verdict.

Dogfighting Ring at Daycare Center
Jimmy Lovell and the Little Brown Dog Dragging
Senior Convicted of Beating Dog [...]

Help a Dog, Get Charged with a Felony! VIDEO

Just unbelievable! Yet another good Samaritan being charged after helping a dog. This time it’s Troy A. Jackson, 36, who has headed the Boise-based animal rescue group Northwest Animal Companion for more than a decade.

A few weeks ago he got involved after another animal advocate from Upper Valley Humane Society was charged with trespassing [...]

Live Gifts – Instructions Not Included

A wiggly pup waits beneath a Christmas tree. A teeny kitten brightens the Hanukkah festival. Nothing stirs the warm fuzzies more than a furry addition to the family. In fact, marketers urge shoppers to wrap Fido or Fluffy in red ribbons, for the perfect holiday present.

But when the bows come off, an animal stumbles into [...]

Good Samaritan Charged for Trying to Help Abused Dog – VIDEO

Wow, doesn’t this just ring a bell? Looks like another good Samaritan is getting punished for trying to help a dog that was abused and neglected by its legal owners after the law and animal services couldn’t or didn’t help! An elderly Savannah, GA woman, Ann Wylene Lam, saw the dog in a neighbor’s while [...]
