Dog Lover & Proud Pet Parent

Passionate when it comes to my canine companions as well as dogs everywhere, it's my mission to raise awareness of any issues that affect them, from their health, food and nutrition and training to their welfare. Canine advocacy is something that everyone who cares about dogs needs to be aware of and we all need to share that and raise our voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

A Christmas Tale

Here’s a heartwarming story I came across and thought would be special to share.   It’s a tale we wish for all shelter dogs 365 days of the year.  Not just at Christmas.  Merry Christmas, and may all your wishes come true.

“Did you hear that?” the old dog shouted. They all ran to the front of their [...]

‘Miracle Dog’ Shot, Makes Way Home To Owner – VIDEO

Sometimes when you catch a story, you’re not quite sure whether to class it as good news or bad and this is one of those. A dog disappears, the dog returns a week later with a gunshot wound that could have killed her and in the end, at least for David Lechen and his [...]

Wrapping Cristmas Presents with Some Little Furry Help

This is one of my favorites and just too cute not to share every year at this time. Although this specifies a puppy I can tell you that you will run into the same problems with any fun-loving, playful dog, no matter how old. I have taken to doing anything [...]

A Shelter Dog’s Christmas Poem

As you gather this holiday season to spend time with friends and family and your own beloved furry family members, take just a moment to think of those dogs and cats who sit alone and unwanted, with just the barest of necessities.

Gather up some old blankets and towels, maybe grab an extra bag of treats [...]

The 12 Days of Christmas; Don’t Forget the Furry Family Members

The holidays are usually a wonderful and exciting time for family and friends but for family pets it can be scary, stressful and dangerous.  Lots of unusual activity, new sounds, scents, people, things around the home; all of this can be traumatic to your furry family member.  Dogs thrive on routine so here’s a few [...]

Poor Little Feller

I hope everyone has read Deanna’s article on giving live pets as presents (Live Gifts – Instructions Not Included).  It’s a good article on the dangers of giving live pets as gifts and should be sent to anyone contemplating giving an animal as a gift.  Even Uncle Harold.

Christmas puppies often are impulse purchases, given with [...]

Live Gifts – Instructions Not Included

A wiggly pup waits beneath a Christmas tree. A teeny kitten brightens the Hanukkah festival. Nothing stirs the warm fuzzies more than a furry addition to the family. In fact, marketers urge shoppers to wrap Fido or Fluffy in red ribbons, for the perfect holiday present.

But when the bows come off, an animal stumbles into [...]

A Dog’s Christmas Promise

Christmas is for humans, and I will not ruin the
surprises by opening all their presents.

Christmas light bulbs, Christmas ornaments, Christmas
stockings, and tinsel from the Christmas tree are not food.

I am the alpha dog, therefore I do not need to protect
my new Christmas rawhide from the omega dog by
taking it [...]

Ohio’s HB 70 to Create Animal Cruelty Felony Desperately Needs Support! Action Alert!

October 22, 2009 marked the one year anniversary that High Caliber K-9, a center for dog training, grooming and boarding located in Youngstown, Ohio, that was raided by local law enforcement. The gruesome discovery of seven dead and 12 starving dogs by humane agents helped serve as the catalyst for proposed Ohio H.B. 70.

Last Year’s Christmas Present…. Something to Think About

Generally I love the holidays and Christmas is always special, filled with memories of years gone by but every year there is one thing I dread; knowing that a few months after Christmas, many, many or those adorable puppies and kittens that were met with such joy and delight under the Christmas tree will grace [...]
