Dog Lover & Proud Pet Parent

Passionate when it comes to my canine companions as well as dogs everywhere, it's my mission to raise awareness of any issues that affect them, from their health, food and nutrition and training to their welfare. Canine advocacy is something that everyone who cares about dogs needs to be aware of and we all need to share that and raise our voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Live Gifts – Instructions Not Included

A wiggly pup waits beneath a Christmas tree. A teeny kitten brightens the Hanukkah festival. Nothing stirs the warm fuzzies more than a furry addition to the family. In fact, marketers urge shoppers to wrap Fido or Fluffy in red ribbons, for the perfect holiday present.

A Little Good News on the WI Homefront for Dogs

Wisconsin is one of the states that basically has no regulations when it comes to commercial dog breeders and organizations have been fighting for years to keep it that way.  This year a puppy mill bill is working it way through.  The bill, AB-250, provides for licensure for anyone or any kennel that sells 25 [...]

Most people don’t realize how scary and actually dangerous Halloween can be for our pets. They tend to think of it as just a mostly fun filled entrée to Fall for children and adults alike but what about our furry companions?

It can actually be quite frightening for them, the constant knocking or door bell [...]

Most people don’t really think too much about their dog or pet’s food.  Sure, a lot of people like to try to make sure you’re feeding what you think is good food, high quality food but do you really think about or know what’s in the food your dog eats?  I think the pet food [...]

Dog Flu – Keeping Your Dog Safe – VIDEO

Yes, dogs do get the flu, a dog flu and yes, there is a vaccine available for Fido.  Is it right for your dog?  I tend to be leary about vaccinations and over-vaccinating but if you have a social pooch, it may be the right thing to do.  Check with your vet and evaluate.  Here’s [...]

Hundreds of Dogs Dying in Parvo Outbreak

In the Detroit area, in Pontiac and Inkster, hundreds of dogs, mainly puppies, have already died from a recent parvo outbreak. Parvovirus, a highly communicable and often deadly disease that is easily spread and expensive to treat, characterized by vomiting and diarrhea, is spread by coming into contact with the feces of contaminated dogs.

Letter to the Editor – Compassion for Creatures, It’s Time to Stop the Killing

My dear friend Caroline of Saving Furry Friends Rescue in VA wrote a Letter to the Editor to her local paper last week and shared it with me.  Although it is specific to her area, as you read this, you will find that everything can easily be translated to the same issues everywhere.

Compassion for Creatures, [...]
