Passionate when it comes to my canine companions as well as dogs everywhere, it's my mission to raise awareness of any issues that affect them, from their health, food and nutrition and training to their welfare. Canine advocacy is something that everyone who cares about dogs needs to be aware of and we all need to share that and raise our voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

For the Love of the Dog is my small effort to do that. Please, won't you help me!

The Silent Heroes; Search and Rescue Dogs – VIDEO

When people or pets are missing, search-and-rescue dogs are the silent heroes, helping to find the missing when human efforts fail. Here’s a little look into one trainer and his search and rescue dogs.

To me, working dogs are just amazing and heroes in themselves whether they are service dogs, therapy dogs or like the ones in the video, search and rescue. There are also the amazing dogs that work with the police and other agencies that because of that they do, save lives every day.

All our babies are heroes to us in one way or another, but these guys are really special! :)

This will sound crazy to some, but to others it will make sense. Whenever I see “canines at work” so to speak, or ones in training, I always take the time out to thank their handlers for what they do for us in a community and for America. Most of you know I hold a special place in my heart because of my own dogs and helping save my own life. So to take out a minute of my day, and thank the K-9 handlers, gives me a happy heart and hopefully makes the handler know that there are folks out there who care and think of them and what they do for us.

I have yet to have a handler not offer the dog’s paw in thanks to me. Yes, they are all highly trained dogs, but they instictively know I am not a threat of any kind; and with the tone and verbage I have with their handler. The handlers are always in shock that someone has actually thanked them. (of course I always tell them that their dog is beautiful, and I always get the “head tilt” from the pup!)

Yes….amazing dogs that they are. We have a couple of avalanche rescue dogs here. They are such wonderful dogs. They love their job’s too. And, yes, Susie, quite beautiful in so many ways. Bless the Rescue Dogs and all other of God’s creatures.
