A beautiful mix breed dog is in need of a home but even more importantly right now she is in need of help. ‘Ingrid’ was rescued by Little Animal Shelter of Huntington several months ago. She was suffering from neglect and upon examination it was also found that she had “various medical conditions that had gone untreated, including heartworm, which led to doctors draining 17 pounds of fluid from her abdomen.”

Ingrid’s heartworm condition almost killed her until doctors placed her on Viagra. Although most well known for use in sexual dysfunction problems, Viagra was initially developed for humans as a heart medication. Vets have prescribed half a 100 milligram tablet twice a day to save her life.

The prescription has been costly, however, costing the center $10 a day. The shelter admits it’s far from rich and now, on Ingrid’s behalf, is turning to the public for help. They’re not asking for money, however, but rather just one Viagra pill from prescribed patients.

“If 200 men supply one pill, we can supply Ingrid with Viagra for seven months,” Stein said.

If you’re interested in helping Ingrid, call the Little Animal Shelter at 631-368-8770. (WCBSTV.com)
