My Mission
Deanna Raeke Dog Lover & Proud Pet Parent
Passionate when it comes to my canine companions as well as dogs everywhere, it's my mission to raise awareness of any issues that affect them, from their health, food and nutrition and training to their welfare. Canine advocacy is something that everyone who cares about dogs needs to be aware of and we all need to share that and raise our voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.
Andrea Rosebrock Andrea has come onboard FTLTD to help out by contributing some stories and following-up with her "Justice Round-Up" series.
For the Love of the Dog is my small effort to do that. Please, won't you help me!

Yes, dogs do get the flu, a dog flu and yes, there is a vaccine available for Fido. Is it right for your dog? I tend to be leary about vaccinations and over-vaccinating but if you have a social pooch, it may be the right thing to do. Check with your vet and evaluate. Here’s a little video clip…
I love hearing your comments but when posting please;
1. Use common courtesy
2. Watch profanity, PG-13 please!
3. Stay on topic - comments that have nothing to do with post will be deleted.

Hells Bells…..I don't get the flu shot and I'll be damned if Sage will have one either. They have not been able to even guarantee that the one they give humans works for the particular flu that is going around that year. She hasn't had one in her five years and has been fine. More vaccines for our baby's???? Your kidding! They don't need half the ones we're told they do, as it is. OH! And which flu is it for? How many flu bugs are there and will this ONE vaccine cover them all? Hmmmm…..after the story on the 'greed" of a lot of vets out there now, isn't this just one more way to get the almighty dollar in their pockets? Come, come now, folks. NOPE….it's not for my sweet Sage. She has been fine in past years, as every single dog I have ever had, has been, and she will be fine through this "flu" season as well. Feed them right, exercise them often, love them a ton, groom them daily, and I betcha, they will be just fine……..no flu vaccine!
I'm with ya Jess, mine get only the shot as required by law, basically rabies. But for dogs that are out alot around other dogs, dog parks, etc and in areas where canine flu is popping up, it may be another story. As with anything like this, every person will have to evaluate their situation and talk to a trusted vet source.. emphasize trusted.
Please note that I am not advocating getting your dog(s) a flu shot, just creating the awareness…
OOO WELL SAID, JESSIE!!!!!!i'm SO with u on this. i had ONE flu shot a long time ago n i was so damn sick!!!! i'd rather have the flu than the shot. i've been good, tho, for years. i don't remember the last time i had a cold or flu.
Well, humans are social too. Work, school, park outings, etc. This video is pretty much what doctors tell human patients. Flu shots are recommended each year if you have a compromised immune system and/or you get sick with flu or pneumonia each year. I cannot see the point in getting a healthy dog a flu shot just because they go to dog parks or doggie day care.
Flu shots are being over-perscribed. Normal, healthy people are getting flu shots when they really shouldn't. You need the healthy population to get sick and produce the antibodies so there are no runaway mutations. Same applies for animals.
