Y’know my friends, I love to share rescue stories that are heartwarming and touching and funny, stories with happy endings, but this isn’t one of them. It could have been and should have been though. There were so many people working together to save Jayden, a beautiful young pitbull that had nothing but bad breaks in his life. After being in the hands of some unscrupulous “rescuers” who dumped him for what was supposed to be a couple of days, he wound up back at a shelter. Rescue was lined up, salvation for a dog that desperately needed and deserved it, until the shelter decided to kill him… callously and heartlessly with no reason after they said they would be willing to work with a rescue.
Here’s Jayden’s sad story, it needs to be heard. This should have never happened and something like this should never be allowed to happen again. He finally had a chance to have his sad life turned around, to be rehabilitated. Jayden touched the hearts of so many, let him touch yours too….

Jayden’s Journey, A Sad Ending to a Dog’s Sad Life
A County animal shelter ended the life of a dog, named Jayden. He was failed by humans in general, throughout his short life, and then ultimately destroyed by the Animal Welfare System. Jayden was deemed unworthy of rehabilitation because of his past biting incidents and history.
I first became aware of Jayden’s plight, as I had been following the slow downward spiral of a young couple posing as Pit Bull advocates and had 13 Pit Bulls that they had rescued and were fostering and rehabilitating into forever homes. This was certainly what they portrayed to many of us, so much so, that many assisted them in raising almost $400 for a supposed kennel run to house the dogs in safely.
When another crisis sent them seeking desperate assistance for their 13 ‘rescued’ Pit Bulls, in an announcement that they were now being immediately evicted for what we now know was neighbor complaints of flies, and dog feces and filth on the property. It was very apparent that these individuals were nothing other than irresponsible and reckless individuals completely out of control and in no way responsible enough to have 1 Pit Bull let alone 13 in their care.
They netted another $175 from the public claiming the funds would be used for boarding the dogs safely while moving if needed. It soon became abundantly clear that they were only thinning out the herd by keeping the more desirables and dumping the more troubled. They soon relinquished two of the dogs to Santa Cruz Animal Control, but lied to the public, claiming it was a No-Kill facility and that they had no choice.
It was during this entire train wreck that I was directly involved in. While, I wanted to keep these dogs safe and agreed to help them raise the funds for the safety of the dogs, it was becoming increasingly clear that these were very distorted and twisted individuals that had no business having 1 dog as a pet, let alone attempting rescuing the one breed of dog that is the most abused dogs on this earth. It really hit home after they dumped the two dogs, that were supposed to have had temperament issues at the county kill shelter while collecting money to ensure their safety.
Jayden was another unfortunate victim of theirs that ended up dumped on an unsuspecting friend of theirs for what was supposed to be 3 days, but then turned into three weeks and they still refused to take the dog back from her. They told her to take him to the shelter, they couldn’t help her.
Jayden, who was used to nothing other than being crated 24/7, finally had freedom and relished every minute of it. During his short three weeks in this home, he was personable, affectionate, loved and longed for attention, and wanted desperately to please. He got along fine with her other dogs, and children, ate and slept openly, and everything seemed in harmony. So well, that this person did not mind him and actually enjoyed his presence and resigned herself to just letting him stay with her until he could find a home.
Unfortunately, with Jayden’s newfound freedom came inadequacy at being properly socialized and a fight between him and her older dog developed. This individual did what any person with inexperience dealing with a dog fight would do, and she made the mistake of trying to get between the dogs, and Jayden bit her calf, quite severely. The dog did not maul her leg and it was one bite that was a deep tissue puncture wound and the bite did require medical treatment and stitches. Jayden was able to be subdued and removed from the house immediately after the bite, and did not redirect his aggression at anyone or anything else in the home.
When this woman contacted the Turners, pleading for them to get Jayden or that she would have to contact animal control, as she had no experience dealing with such a serious matter. They ignored her pleas.
She surrendered the dog to Santa Cruz Animal Control. She explained where he originated from, in which they instantly recognized the name of the couple from their previous incidents with them. Because of her deep affection for Jayden, she neglected to tell them of the biting incident for she feared they would not give him a chance and would euthanize him.
The animal networking community became aware of the biting incident as some of us were closely following the situation and the dogs. I really felt the dog deserved a chance at quality rehabilitation and not the neglectful treatment he had endured in his short life. We began a campaign to ensure his rescue and hopeful rehabilitation.
I talked extensively with the shelter manager in regards to Jayden’s extensive bite history that Wednesday on the 14Th. She represented the shelters anger at being deceived of the dog’s biting history, but they were cooperative and receptive to possibly releasing the dog to a rehabilitative organization and facility.
She did, however, make repeated statements expressing extreme resentment for the increased interest being paid to this dog, while they had perfectly well-balanced dogs in the shelter needing interest and saved. The telephone calls began to take on a disturbing tone in the days ahead.
The shelter represented that the dog would be eligible for possible release to a qualified rescue after quarantine on the 16Th at 4pm. On that Friday the 16Th I represented Dog’s Best Friend Rehabilitation and placed the call along with another Rescue organization to Santa Cruz Animal Shelter, in attempts to begin negotiations for Jayden’s release to us. We were treated with open disregard, obvious contempt, hostility, and blatant resentment for even wanting to save this dog.
We were ridiculed for our efforts and treated without any common courtesy of professionalism.
The shelter manager informed me after considering the circumstances, the director decided that morning that Jayden would not be eligible for release to any organization ever. When I asked for clarification, she stated that he would not be made available, and refused to commit to anything other than, ‘”He would not be available”‘.
When asked why the dog was not being afforded a second chance at rehabilitation, she stated, sarcastically and emphatically, “He had more than his second chances, he has had tons of chances”. However, she couldn’t acknowledge that such irresponsible handling of a dog would be deemed as appropriate rehabilitative efforts for a dog such as this.
Jayden was shuttled in and out of irresponsible environments and crated the majority of his short formative years, yet these were his “supposed chances”. She asked numerous times, “Why would we want to save this dog?” Her obvious disdain for any effort at doing so was grossly apparent, obviously in her mind, he was deemed as totally unworthy.
I asked to speak with the shelter director that made the decision, she stated that I could not, that he would not be back until after 3pm and I was welcome to phone back and speak with him then.
When I phoned back at 3:01 I spoke with the same shelter manager, she said she would see if the director was back and placed me on hold for a period of time. She then came back on the line, and asked for my full name, and the organization’s name, I spelled it for her. She then placed me back on hold again. After about 3 minutes later of additional hold time, another woman whom I had never spoken with came on the line and was unbelievably even more unprofessional than the previous.
She stated the director was not back and he would not be able to help me anyways, that Jayden would never be available and that he was already euthanized at 1pm that afternoon. The obvious enjoyment and unprofessional manner in which she relayed this communication to me, bordered on the bizarre, and I actually found it to be the disturbing thing of this entire incident.
Instead of being enthused in an outside organization wanting to preserve a troubled dogs life, they instead, resented it. They chose this valuable time to debate and chastise us for wanting to save such a dog, when so many more are worthier of being saved, criticizing a dog’s right to live, regardless of any extenuating circumstances.
Nobody can make themselves judge and jury to a dog biting incident(s) in which they were not privy to or directly involved in to understand the extenuating circumstances and the dynamic that goes into dog aggression. We as rescuers and those that rehabilitate understand this fundamental logic, yet, it’s disturbing to think that an animal shelter agency would not.
Their unprofessional and very emotionally charged dialog began to display their obvious frustration at the animal shelter system in America today. It appeared that the dog in question, seized to be a living being with a right to life, but instead a symbol or tool, to them, to reserve and prove the right to judge his fate, in this broken system today.
They deemed themselves worthy of playing God, and deemed a dog not worthy of life. They verbally chastised a Rescue organization that only wished the opportunity to save him. They lectured about the Pit Bull Crisis in general, and how shamed we should be that we are not wishing to save the good ones languishing in shelters. How dare we not want to help those dogs, assuming such ignorance is how we think.
This incident in a dog’s welfare at the County level, only instilled a very common and disturbing theme in practice all over, and that is that we as human beings in positions of authority over their very existence are holding these ‘dogs’ completely responsible for their destructive actions, regardless of the direct link of their actions originating from the irresponsible handling by the humans themselves. We create them, in their entirety, instilling more destruction, and yet, we are blaming them for our faults. This is a disturbing analogy for a County Animal Shelter system to be operating under.
Is it any wonder at the high-kill rate that exists in these government funded shelters, considering such unsympathetic and archaic thought patterns that are operating behind some of them. To move past such barbarity and small-minded thinking, one has to start over in these mentalities and behaviors found at the county level. It seems to be a common pattern that is operating in 90% of them throughout the US. Not all county shelters exist under such a mindset and some are unique and truly innovative in their philosophies, and treatment of these living beings, and they are truly pioneers, striving to make a difference, not just to exist in the status quo environment of ‘the system’.
They treated us with disdain, contempt and utter hostility, when all we wanted to do was save a dog’s life. They deemed our work with rehabilitating dogs as worthless and useless to society. That essentially, killing them is far more effective in accomplishing and promoting respect of animal welfare and the sanctity of all living beings.
How dare they make such an assumption, as if we could be as callous as them to pick and choose our battles. Are we not all battling the same thing? The absolute abuse, neglect, mistreatment of the most abused dog on the planet? We would give anything to be able to solve and rescue the overpopulation of the Pit Bulls all over the world. But we cannot, but we can try and help the most disadvantaged ones, the most troubled ones and give back to the most abused, mistreated, vilified, and persecuted breed of dog, in demonstrating their worthiness of life, even in the most extreme cases. I can think of no better testament to the breed.
Instead we were condemned, as this dog’s fate was too. I found myself hoping that they did not display such hostility to that very scared and frightened dog, that felt such fear, that he lashed out in it. It was not hate, a dog knows no such thing as hate, it’s only fear that they feel so powerless against.
I tried to ask this last woman I spoke with if someone held Jayden and showed him love and comfort when they euthanized him, for Jayden did show love, and loved affection and loved kindness, he was not wildly and uncontrollably vicious, but she never gave me the chance, she hung up on me.
I exposed this couples scam and dangerous and reckless behaviors in a previous article titled “Tough Lessons Learned in Rescuing Pit Bulls”. I ended that article with these words, yet I had no idea how prophetic they might be: “God forbid it will take the deaths of these dogs for this to hit home with anyone, and I hope and pray for their sake this is not the ending scenario, for no one will be more devastated than I, to think I had direct knowledge of their situation and being at that shelter, and to know that will haunt me for the rest of my life.”
Jayden’s journey to Jeff and Dog’s Best Friend Rehabilitation in Irving, TX was in process, we undertook the process in securing him $300 in sponsorship funds to get him pulled out of the county facility by a Rescue Organization finally willing to help us in California. We had the secure and responsible foster in place and we were going to somehow, someway eventually get this dog to Texas to hopefully a new life that he deserved, even after everyone else, including the Turners in being the most responsible for dumping and turning their backs on him.
It was a very special mission and goal, for this dog, that obviously had gotten shuffled around and aside for all of his life. We were excited and determined in Jeff’s optimism in rehabilitating Jayden. Jeff gave his full assurance that even if such a transformation did not take place, that Jayden would always live out the remainder of his life with him, safe and in comfort, without fail. How could one argue with such dedication of someone willing to take this dog on without any monetary assurances or financial backing, a further testament of his belief in this dog’s promise and the belief in his own abilities.
But, in Jayden’s Journey it did not end in the way we all had hoped or thought it would. However, his life and his struggles and his ultimate death will serve a greater mission and purpose. It will bring awareness of such tragedies, in hopes ones such as his can be avoided in the future. So many lessons and wisdom to be obtained in his very struggle to live.
We asked the public to believe in Jayden in deserving of a second chance. The tremendous outpouring of sadness and outrage over this dog’s death, has proven we did believe in you, Jayden. We will always continue believing in dogs like you and we will work tirelessly in promotion of this, without fail, for as long as it is needed.
Rest in peace sweet friend. Thank you for the wisdom and the lessons you shared in having you in my life, even if it was from afar.

Sadly, we can do nothing now for Jayden except to try to make sure that he did not die in vain. You can contact the Santa Cruz Animal Control and let them know what you think about them killing a dog that so many had been working so hard to save. Ego and power plays have no place in animal shelters and animal welfare organizations! Either people are in it for the animals or they should get out!

Thank you to all the people involved in trying to give Jayden a new life in such a cruel world. Jayden was used and abused by the Turner’s and then to be MURDERED by the animal control agency in Sanra Cruz Californis, by people that you would think do the same thing that we were trying to do for Jayden forsome reason they were upset that we wanted to rescue Jayden and not one of their dogs that had already passed “their evaluations”. Jayden was a personal rescue on so many levels, I do not have time to list them all, but he was a baby, a baby that had lived in a crate most of his life, and when not in that crate when he finally made it to freedom in a foster home, he was a big LOVEBUG, he wanted love&to play and to enjoy his life. Dogs get into fights, I have 4 I know, he did not ATTACK, he was not trained on what was right and what was weong. But YOU PEOPLE AT THE SHELTER~ YOU ALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN TRAINED< OR MAYBE MURDURING BABIES is what you do best, we had the money to pull and were well on our way to get plenty more, I had promised to give the rehad money EVERY MONTH for Jayden to be in REHABILITATION, where Jeff was going to train Jayden, something Jayden would have loved, to be with a pack and with a family that wold love and care for him for EVER, but it was all taken away from him on Friday, the 16th of OCTOBER 2009 at 1 o'clock om by the workers at the SANTA CRUZ ANIMAL CONTROL……you all should be held accountable for your actions in his murder, you should all be in the unemployment line here in California, I am sure there are plenty of people that LOVE ANIMALS that would be better at your job then you are……SHAME ON ALL OF YOU!! And I hope when Jayden took his last breath that someone at the HELL HOLE held Jayden and showed him the LOVE that he had found in foster care, the love that Jayden was searching for and had finally found when he was killed by you. Rest in Peace sweet babyboy~I hope someone learns something from your story!!
Shelly I couldn’t have said it better myself. I guess the people at the Santa Cruz Animal Shelter don’t understand what rehabilitation is. RIP Jayden, you will not be forgotten
Shelly,
This story is a nightmare and like so many others we are finding and uncovering within the very places where “humane” treatment of animals must have had the letters i and n fall off the word humane in these town/city run and PAID state organizations who are as crooked and corrupt as any other animal abuser only worse. They hide their inhumanity and acts of terror and murder behind a badge and uniform supplied by the state they represent. They are cowards and cause the state they work for the utmost disrespect and embarassment. TX is another state who have been under the radar and have been up close and personal with the radar of Animal Task Forces for months. Complete staffs of personnel walk off the job after years of subjecting countless innocent animals to abuse worse than where they came from for fun and games at those poor animals expenses leaving thousands of already frightened animals alone, puppies drowning in thier own watar bowls from neglect and inexcusible abuse, and others dying from starvtion because the staff has been stealing all the food supply’s purchased to feed the animals in their care at the facility NOT the animals at their homes and others leaving the police departments liable for their care and these wonderful individuals who wear the badge and uniform of law enforcement and have “To Protect And Serve” on their police cars have their guns drawn and are just shooting these innocent animals at will waiting for the next animal to show signs of illness, or the “just because” they felt like it, spilling the blood of thousands of animals rather than care for them is the worst form of injustice this country has ever seen. Killing because they love to kill must be the new oath of police officers when they are sworn in as law enforcers and protectors for the innocent. This is disgrace to the millions of other police officers who wear their badges and uniforms, put their lives in jeapordy every single day, and serve their city’s/towns and states with the pride, honor, and respect they have vowed to do.
The higher up’s know about all these allegations and pleas from volunteer workers calling everyday in complete panic and hysteria as they have witnessed yet more and more inhumane, dispicable acts of terror and suffering these badge wearers are inflicting on these innocent animals each phone call made by all the volunteer workers are all made in such despair and fear of getting caught by these evil doers who have threatened them all using an innocent animal as a live example of what will happen to them if they tell what these paid, badge wearing humane facility workers are doing every day to these animals, begging the person on the phone to do something right away and their cries and pleas, proof of every allegation and abuse with photos, and video recordings with dates, times and perfect images of the animal abusers making these poor animals scream in pain until they are silent, permanantly horrifying the volunteers who cannot just not come back because they are keeping as many groups of animals together protecting them from the abusers and day after day, no one comes to stop the abuse.
Finally, someone from the upper authority or other, appears and responds to the countless calls pleading for help confronts the staff about stealing years worth of supply’s, and food purchased to care for the animals at the shelter and the staff informs them of the truth of what they have been doing, too horified to even inquire about the abuse and death rate of the animals, the employes are told to leave and ae terminated yet no charges are ever filed, a complete cover up as usual. No charges, no trial, no prosecution, no punishment at all. Just a pack your bags and even though the media has been camped out there for days pressing these higher up officials what will be done with these most lethal animal abusers gains them a “no comment” and we never her anything about this again.
Corruption in these humane shelters/society’s is everywhere in the United States. You are right Shelly, millions of people are without jobs and would fall on their knees with thanks for getting the oportunity to have a job caring for our animals would be a dream come true but they are not even given the option.
We have been reporting, begging, taking notes, photos, video’s showing the abusers and their badges stepping on a puppy’s neck as their idea of euthanization, flooding the higher animal law enforcment officials with phone calls telling them what is happening on a daily basis and nothing gets done, it is ignored because after all, these animals are helpless, frightened beyond themselves, lost, left, abandoned, hurt, agonizing from abuse and suffering from their very fixable injury’s from being hit by a car and left to die or owners refusal to seek medical care for these animals; it is dispicable, unforgivable, and a felony punishable by a lifetime in prison, huge fines to compensate the non profit rescuer who opened their hearts to this animal in need, and got them veterinarian care that has now crippled their rescue effort due to the length of time it will take to pay off this veterinarian care bill for an animal who didn’t belong to them; didn’t belong to anyone but being an animal rescuer dedicated to save any animals life who is in need and injured on top of that, and a good samaritan trying to teach others the meaning of humanity, the importance of all of us to reach out and help save a life of a living, breathing, feeling species who has been abandoned; thrown away by man, and what a better world this would be if we all did our part and worked together and showed mercy and kindness to the innocent and helpless animals who have no voice that someone who does not care or value animal life would ever hear or understand, opening their hearts and taking part of the miracle and displaying such a good deed that would make our children proud serving as an example of how we all want our children to be “good somebody’s” in the world, and not just add their negative, deadly actions and attitude to the existing “cancerous tumor” or “hazardous poison” who’s presence and existance adds more and more wickedness, undue strain, and evil on an already darkened America, never doing or contributing anything good or positive to help heal the immoral mess others started, scattered, and did not take with them when they departed
this world.
I cry every day for our young men and women who are overseas risking their lives every second fighting a war against terrorists and people who hate us in our country and want us dead, gone, erased from the world. These brave soldiers in our military are dying for all of us in this country. For what? The greatest enemy is NOT the terrorists who have never even met us and have no right to just hate us because we as a society have done nothing to them personally. I know for sure I have not done anything to make them hate me or anyone else for that matter. Have you? Yet, our military so unselfishly continue to fight and die for the honor of every person, good and bad, who live in this country and call America “home”. The greatest enemy is not overseas; they are right here in our own country;they are all the people who do nothing positive, nothing good, corrupt, strain and add to the already massive, immoral “cancerous tumor” that continues to grow and spread with every act of evil a person inflicts on an innocent life. The human being is the only species who preys on its own kind. This is what our brave men and women are fighting for? Corrupt and evil America? Why bother? This country and every person in it owes our military, their family’s, and each other doing and changing bad and evil actions and deeds to good, humane, and positive actions and deeds showing our gratitude, thanks, respect for the sacrifice they made, and honor to those who continue to fight and those who have died for each of us; we owe them returning to a country filled with respect, pride, good deeds and actions. We owe them and ourselves a country WORTHY to have been fought for. Worthy of the countless lives that have been lost fighting for this country that was once filled with an ugly “cancerous tumor” that is no longer there because we ALL did out part working together to kill off that tumor that was killing our country. We don’t have to be that greatest enemy onto ourselves any longer.
The greatest enemy must be the terrorists overseas. Someone is always going to hate America for their own reasons and we will always be a victim to their hate but, I refuse to be a victim in my own country. In every war there is always collateral damage which is innocent life. I can live with the possibility of being one of the many victims of collateral damage in a war overseas, but to live as a potential victim of collateral damage in my own country from my own fellow countryman, I will never accept that fate and neither should you.
This government funded agency will say all of the excuses that such agencies utter when in defense of something undefendable. They will say they had no choice, that they are bound by law to euthanize a dangerous dog. Yet, if you read closely in this supposed ‘law’ in the fine print, you will find no such wording that can specifically define Jayden or a similar dog that has bitten in fear as being a dangerous dog ONLY worthy of DEATH. Nothing states only a government funded animal shelter is qualified to make such a determination. The wording will be vague, and open to misinterpretation. They have these loopholes in place, so that they are unaccountable for their gross, negligent, and ignorant, power-filled rush to judgement interpretations. Any remedy they see fitting will be just and legal in their viewpoint of the law. Those that do not agree and challenge them will be deemed and portrayed as unrealistic, unreasonable, and uneducated in the reality of animal welfare. Obviously to this shelter many of these veteran rescuers with 30+ years in animal welfare and rehabbing know nothing of what it is like to deal day in and day out with having to kill animals for a living. Well, they are correct, we chose a much different path, a path to rescuing and not killing. Perhaps if they stopped enabling the broken-down, dilapitated system, it might just be forced to change, finally.
This is horrible, those workers in that animal shelter, do they have any education on how to handle dogs or are they clearly off the streets with disregard to any being. The dog had been through alot then to destroy him, this was uncalled for. So, if the is dog was destroyed, why not destroy humans that act like animals when drunk get into fights, knife and kill people. why dont we euthanize those animals. What about the lifers in jails that are over crowded, why not euthanize those savage animals, killers in jail for life. This is horrible, animals can not speak and anyone can do anything to them, but humans we can speak even the pedaphiles get a chance at life in prison. why not euthanize pedaphones, murderers so forth and so on. I have no respect for these people in this Animal Control.
My final say, any animal provoked would react in this case I believe Jayden didnt have a chance with uneducated, ignorant people. Did this person ever visit a vet to see what was bothering Jayden, no of course not, that would be too responsible, they just got rid of the dog who is now dead god knows where his body is. I say all people involved should be brought to court for something, failure to get proper medical attention and evaluation from a licensed vet. then they need to go to classes on how to be kind and how to handle animals of any kind and not posses any animals of any kind till all classes have been completed and probatioon is over. then they must report to the courts should they posses any kind of animals. especially dogs. USE YOUR NOGGIN before taking on any responsible that is your league. this is upsetting. that dog has not fault in this matter. I am sure this dog fight escalated they chose to ignore it. now jayden is the one that paid the ultimate price HIS LIFE. It is what humans do to animals. they are not born vicious, even baby tigers are non vicious. this is just horrible. unbelievable.
I’M GONNA WRITE THEM RIGHT AWAY. THESE POS SOB STUPID PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW THAT THEY ACTED REALLY UNPROFESSIONALLY & NEED SOME CLASSES IN MANNERS.
P.S REST IN PEACE JAYDEN AS YOU ARE NOW FREE TO ROMP & PLAY AT THE BRIDGE TILL SOME ANIMAL LOVER WILL TAKE YOU OVER THE BRIDGE WITH THEM.
Just so everyone knows…these people the TURNERS that have been the result of many pitbulls being PTS because they act as the rescue, get money from poeple, begging and pleading they need help and then take them to this shelter to be euthanized. Last we heard they needed money from donations to move to Texas and help with the dogs in their posession, well they are in California still, Morgan Hill and in the household they are staying in are about 13 pitbulls, 3 of which they in the past had taken to this same rescue and they were on deat row. We have to get these people, the TURNERS, they are the number one cause for all of this, from ever being able to own an animal, they also had a shed in their backyard with no ventilation in it with about 18 cats, and we have to get the shelter employees responsibel for Jaydens death FIRED, they have NO business working with animals. I am working on a petition to get the ball rolling. When we get the petition started we will have it added her so everyone can sign…thank you for your comments, Jayden was such a good baby, I am also calling the Board of Directors for Santa Cruz County to get email addresses, these people that killed Jayden need to be in the California jail but if not at least in the unemployment line, and not to ever be able to work with animals in their life, Shelley Bright that wrote this article was to coordinartor in this whole thingm once I read his first story, I had to help on Jaydens resuce….here is the first story about the Turners:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dog-Examiner/131897829456?v=app_2347471856#/note.php?note_id=137334670892.
Please be sure to log these murders into the do not transport/ do not adopt to web site. Are they licensed to rescue? If so, they have violated every statue there is. If they are 501c3 as well, they have violated the federal laws regarding non for profit best interest for animal welfare specifically written to get federal approval of a non profit rescue organization. I would lodge a complaint with the HSUS and see what they can do on a criminal basis. This cannot just be let go. It is not their first time and it sure will not be their last. Call every organization you can think of and get these murderers charged with fraud.
I have contacted the HSUS, I wrote the letter to Wayne Pacelle in hopes he does get the letter. Shelley B. do you know if the Turners are a 501-3c registered rescue….I believe I heard that somewhere. Also I did call the Board of Directors, General Manager, Henry Brzezenski today and sent all of the articles to him by email and asked him to please respond, I told him that we are seeking these employees that were so persistant in putting Jayden to sleep FIRED, and I also said this will go national, I will not stop here and that we are working on a petition to have the individuals involved in Jayden’e death terminated, they have no right to be working with animals, ever in their life, they had no compassion at all for his life, not an ounce.
RIP sweet Jayden….you are with some very special friends up there and will experience only love and joy now. You were a good boy, never given a chance……
What other horrors are going on there? Anyone go in and investigate. This sucking place needs to be closed or everyone should be fired, not just the ones who were rude. They all need to pay out of their pockets, the city needs to fire them now. d
What happen to the couple, are they in jail, paid a big fine or just going on without any punishment? Tell me the other dogs were at least taken away from them!
No they still have many of the othe pitties…we are working on that!
How can we work on this~these people need to have all the dogs taken away from them~how is it that animal control KNEW of the TURNERS and how all the PITBULLS that were in there care and went to foster came back to the KILL SHELTER to be KILLED and the TURNERS HAVE MORE PITBILLS~ where is the damn law, no one cares, no one listens, even the people that work with animals at the county place just kill them, what can we do to fix this problem!!
oh wow, this is horrible! I can’t stop crying now! I’ve actually been stuck in this situation (sorta)
Angus my pit, when he was at his foster mom’s house went after her Shepard mix (well they went after each other). The fosterof course jumped in between them, and Angus chomped down on her arm. Instead of freaking out she took the pups to the vet, went to the hospital, and decided Angus needed a home fast. The shelter she was with, worked SO hard to find him a home, and people kept turning him down because of an accident. It was the only time he EVER bite anyone, and she said as soon as he did, he dropped on the floor, belly up. Now he’s safe, and so happy.
As for the other part. We were looking for another pup (once you have one you can’t stop). We contacted the shelter we used to get Angus. They try to get dogs out of NY Animal Control. Mostly Pits, but whatever comes in. They had the sweetest pitmix. He passed all their tests with flying colors. The staff liked him, etc. Well they told “through their eyes rescue” they had til the end of the week to find him a home, we jumped on him as soon as we got the flyer (the next day), unfortunally, the staff had lied, and put him down that same night. They gave no reason, just did it and had nothing to say.
We were heart broken. Jayden, I am glad you are in a better place, those people didn’t deserve you. Thank you to all those who helped, it shows that their are GREAT and WONDERFUL people out there. My Pitbulls salute (and slobber) you.
I am so sorry that you had to experience this, I know since Jayden was MURDERED by the shleter employees, I am not me anymore, I feel like there are so many evil people in this world and so mnay posing to help animals to only make their lives better. How do they sleep at night, those people the know someone that loves animals os coming in to save one and they MURDER them, how do they feel, do they laugha nd joke about it or do they loose any sleep at night like we do…they all need to be major back ground checked, just like if they were going to work woith children. I would not do a job like that if it paid 1000 an hour, I would much rather be homeless then be a murderer to the innocent!
Jayden Darling … R.I.P. and please enjoy your life as a little angel.
May all those who ill-treated you rot in hell!
Love you beautiful boy…
RIP sweet Jayden, you deserved better. They are euthenizing the wrong animals : (
Why is it that people like that always end up with the jobs in shelters and people like me, that love animals, don’t have a chance. I’m beginning to think that people like the ones in this story are actually animal abusers thatgot themselves in a possition where they can do it legally, What A Crock!
Its poor excuses for humane beings that keeps HATRED alive and well. Because I have a real hate on for those dispicable insensitive louts that were involved in this. They aren’t even fit to lick that poor dogs a** : ( I’m so mad right now, I could bite nails : (
RIP, dear Jayden, and know that your tragic execution has touched so many of us. Forgive those members of the human race who didn’t value your life enough to help you but instead were eager to destroy you and your hope for happiness
The irony of your being killed by those who should have protected you makes me sick, as does the irony of the shelter manager saying he had plenty of second chances, which reminds me of how the Michael Vick apologists keep saying he deserves a second chance. Jayden was far more deserving of getting a new lease on life then the dogkiller could ever be
What a heartbreaking story. When I got to the paragraph about not being able to find out if he had been shown any love and comfort as he was euthanized, I could no longer read through my tears.
I am so very sorry, Jayden, for you and all of the other dogs who deserve much more in this life than to be stereotyped, abused and murdered by inhumane people pretending to provide shelter for animals in need
Many shelters consider pit types kennel trash , a waste of space that another dog could use .This is an example of such as this poor dog never had a chance .The people who did this are kennel trash
This is such a tragic story. It is so sad that some people in the field of animal welfare sometimes become hardened and unfeeling. They forget that dogs like Jayden are “real” flesh and blood creatures. Your story was written so well. I am going to do my share to be sure the story gets heard by others.
The killing facilities have got to be stopped. What kind of human beings work in these places, who profess to care about animals? The answer is evident – look at most of our nation’s gov.funded pounds, nothing but killing facilities except for a handfull of helpless animals who survive and find a home. Yes, Jayde, forgive us all for the unforgivable!
We as TAXPAYERS have to DEMAND changes in the LEAGAL system for animals~ if it is animal cruelty LOCK THEM UP for years NOT days~ we have so many damn KILL SHELTERS IN THIS COUNTRY it is SICKENING~ we need CHANGE IN THE SYSTEM for this MURDERING TO STOP!!!
PETITION was added days after Jaydens story hit SO PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION!!! PLEASE!!!

An unsocialized pit bull that has aggression problems… this woman who was bitten by him let him around her children?! I would get child protective services over to her house to examine her head. The dog got into a fight, she stepped in to stop it and was bitten. I don’t think that makes him a bad dog, but she was TOTALLY IRRESPONSIBLE in not disclosing that he had bitten her – not just a nip, but a serious bite. She was willing to have that dog placed in another home, put someone else in danger (or their pet or child) so that he could “have another chance.” I’m all for giving animals chances, but the shelter people do have a point: there are tons of well-socialized dogs begging to be taken home and the time, effort and money spent on dogs that have issues is asinine. The money spent on one dog could save 100. Do you not care about the horrors of those dogs being put down? It’s tragic that animals are unsocialized and treated badly by humans but save as many as you can.
Justine, in general I believe in saving as many as possible too but sometimes there are special cases that tug at the heart and soul, especially dogs that have never really had a chance and someone wants to give them that chance. Why shouldn’t they be allowed? Who is to say who to save and who not to. Pretty much everyone in rescue and animal advocacy is involved because they choose to be, they are called to it. It’s a person’s right to follow their heart in special cases.
D.
Justine, that sounds very much like the argument which the Humane Society used in advocating that all the dogs seized from Michael Vick and other dogfighting rings to be euthanized. I have a very hard time understanding the concept of “rescuing” dogs in order to destroy them.
Justine Davis, anyone who has been around dogs at all knows that you don’t put your self in the way of dogs that are engaged in a fight. The dogs are concentrating on serviving the other dogs bites. This was a mistake that she made and also the dog made the mistake of biting her. But obiously it was a mistake and not a viscous dog. If the dog was truely viscous, Jayden would not have stopped as soon as he realized what had happened. She was right in not telling, because what she feared did happen. Any time any dog gets into a fight with another dog(no matter what dog) there is the chance of getting bitten if you are foolish enough to place your body in harms way.So this was not the dogs fault,it was the ladies fault and she was smart enough ro realize that. But as usual the poor dog had to pay the ultimate price. May the sweet little thing rest in piece.
