Justine Davis, anyone who has been around dogs at all knows that you don't put your self in the way of dogs that are engaged in a fight. The dogs are concentrating on serviving the other dogs bites. This was a mistake that she made and also the dog made the mistake of biting her. But obiously it was a mistake and not a viscous dog. If the dog was truely viscous, Jayden would not have stopped as soon as he realized what had happened. She was right in not telling, because what she feared did happen. Any time any dog gets into a fight with another dog(no matter what dog) there is the chance of getting bitten if you are foolish enough to place your body in harms way.So this was not the dogs fault,it was the ladies fault and she was smart enough ro realize that. But as usual the poor dog had to pay the ultimate price. May the sweet little thing rest in piece.

Justine, that sounds very much like the argument which the Humane Society used in advocating that all the dogs seized from Michael Vick and other dogfighting rings to be euthanized. I have a very hard time understanding the concept of "rescuing" dogs in order to destroy them.

Justine, in general I believe in saving as many as possible too but sometimes there are special cases that tug at the heart and soul, especially dogs that have never really had a chance and someone wants to give them that chance. Why shouldn't they be allowed? Who is to say who to save and who not to. Pretty much everyone in rescue and animal advocacy is involved because they choose to be, they are called to it. It's a person's right to follow their heart in special cases.

An unsocialized pit bull that has aggression problems... this woman who was bitten by him let him around her children?! I would get child protective services over to her house to examine her head. The dog got into a fight, she stepped in to stop it and was bitten. I don't think that makes him a bad dog, but she was TOTALLY IRRESPONSIBLE in not disclosing that he had bitten her - not just a nip, but a serious bite. She was willing to have that dog placed in another home, put someone else in danger (or their pet or child) so that he could "have another chance." I'm all for giving animals chances, but the shelter people do have a point: there are tons of well-socialized dogs begging to be taken home and the time, effort and money spent on dogs that have issues is asinine. The money spent on one dog could save 100. Do you not care about the horrors of those dogs being put down? It's tragic that animals are unsocialized and treated badly by humans but save as many as you can.

The killing facilities have got to be stopped. What kind of human beings work in these places, who profess to care about animals? The answer is evident - look at most of our nation's gov.funded pounds, nothing but killing facilities except for a handfull of helpless animals who survive and find a home. Yes, Jayde, forgive us all for the unforgivable!

This is such a tragic story. It is so sad that some people in the field of animal welfare sometimes become hardened and unfeeling. They forget that dogs like Jayden are "real" flesh and blood creatures. Your story was written so well. I am going to do my share to be sure the story gets heard by others.
