This is not dog related but it is something that should touch everyone’s heart.

ShaneThere’s a young boy who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2004 when he was 5.  Sadly in June of 2006 he relapsed.

His 8th birthday is coming up on May 30 and his one wish, not for toys or candy or money or any of the things many children wish for; Shane wishes to receive birthday cards!  Shane wants to set the world record for the most birthday cards received.

Not too much to ask, right? Check out Shane’s story – Shane’s Wish – then find just a moment and send him a card.

A little wish from almost-8-year-old Shane Bernier turns into a global effort as thousands send the cancer patient birthday greetings TORONTO – 4/1/07 – “He’s so happy when he’s opening them,” Shane’s mother says from the hospital. “His spirits are so much better because he’s not thinking as much about his cancer. People are helping him so much and they don’t even know it.”

The young child has spent more than a third of his life fighting his disease. Diagnosed with leukemia on May 25, 2004, Shane had been in early remission and was just a few months away from completing his course of treatment when tests showed the stubborn cancer had returned last July.

Instead of entering Grade 2 at his school, Shane is back to weekly trips to the hospital for chemotherapy, with endless days apart from his younger brother, Jacob, and his friends.

The good news is that doctors have told his mom that Shane has an 80% chance of a full recovery after he finishes treatment in May 2008. But that seems so far away for a little boy and that’s where this birthday card campaign has been key to boosting his morale. (for the full story Click here)
