A Rescuer’s Nightmare

Rescue work is hard and demanding, coupled with tears and joy.  You work your butt off rescuing animals from abuse, neglect, and danger of death in a shelter.

You qualify every applicant and when you find the right one, you sit back with a sigh of relief watching the happy wagging tails take off to their new, forever home.

But sometimes that sigh turns into a squeezing pain in the middle of your chest when you find out the adoptive family has given away those animals and you have no idea where they have gone.

That’s what happened with two dogs rescued by Let’s Adopt Global.  One dog was rescued from death in a North Carolina gas chamber.  The other dog was rescued from a shelter from Hell in Turkey.  These two dogs were adopted by Giselle Ammonn Perry and Simcha Goldman of Toronto, Canada. This was not a simple walk-down-to-the-shelter-get-me-a-couple-of-dogs-thing.  It took a lot of time, money, and many individuals to get these dogs from North Carolina and Turkey to Canada just for Giselle Perry and Simcha Goldman.  Giselle was excited as all git-out over these dogs joining her family.

Giselle Ammonn Perry and Simcha Goldman

I know she was.  I was involved in the facebook thread – the private facebook conversation on the rescue and transportation logistics that she participated in.  She was very anxious to get these two dogs -  Tex and Brandon.

You can read more about it here at this Blog post by Viktor Larkhill of Let’s Adopt Global.

Now they have informed Let’s Adopt that they have gotten rid of the dogs.  They have refused to state where these dogs went.  They only had these dogs for a little over a month.  No one knows if they were given to others or dumped at another shelter.  They’ve blocked all the people involved from their facebook accounts and threatened us.  Don’t believe me?  I have the entire thread.

It’s a rescuer’s nightmare.  There is lot of money and time involved in pulling animals from shelters and finding loving forever homes.  Your blood, sweat, and tears go into it.  A when these animals are blindly given away from someone you trusted to give a good home, it spirals into a nightmare.  You have no idea if these dogs will be OK,  or dead somewhere.

Sometimes things don’t work out.  Reaching out to the rescuers first can ease the disappointment adopters sometimes face.  But dumping them elsewhere and callously announcing “I got rid of the dogs” is NOT the way to go about it.

So…for those of you in the Toronto Canada and nearby areas, please be on the lookout for these two dogs (pictured below).   And please put Giselle Ammonn Perry and Simcha Goldman on any Do Not Adopt list.

Giselle Ammonn Perry & Simcha Goldman picking up Tex from the Foster home.

Tex was rescued from a North Carolina shelter that kills unwanted animals with a gas chamber.  Brandon was rescued from a Turkish shelter that had dead rats in water used as drinking water for the dogs.  These two dogs deserved a better place to live and that’s what the group thought they had found.  A home with Giselle Perry and Simcha Goldman.  Let’s Adopt Global and all others involved with the rescue of these two dogs want them returned so that they may be safely placed in another more deserving home.

And to Giselle.  Deleting your facebook profile, threatening the group, and putting up another profile doesn’t make it any better or get you off the hook.  All your messages have been preserved.  If you want this blog post removed, return the dogs to Let’s Adopt or one of their agents.   Or, as they say in the Wild Internet Kingdom, “Once on the net, Always on the net”.

If you have seen these dogs, or know where they are, please contact Viktor Larkhill at viktor@myletsadopt.com.

UPDATE: Tex and Brandon have been located.  The new families went through the adoption process and these homes seem to be stable.  However, the family of Giselle continues to harass the rescue group.  You can read all about it here.

  • as a toronto, canada rescue i am thankful you are making rescues aware of these people but on the other side of the coin i get AT LEAST 2 emails A DAY from people who were badly mismatched by a rescue when they adopted and the rescue would not help or take the dog back despite the contract.

I think we need to temper our articles and thoughts with both sides of the story. It's easy to be outraged but not so easy sometimes to take responsibiltiy too.

DID the rescue refuse to answer their calls or emails for help or to return the dogs? Were they qualified in dog behaviour and ABLE to help?

These look like young dogs but as a rescuer i've ha 4 mo old dogs willing to bite so what is their side of the story? I'd say there is at least one irresponsible rescue for each irresponsible adopter

    • The rescue contacted them for an update on the two dogs. No word. The fosters of these dogs also contacted them. All FB messages were blocked and all phone calls and emails went unanswered. The rescue issued an ultimatum. Please contact us with an update or return the dogs. That's when the group was threatened and found out they just gave the dogs away.

I was involved in all conversations over the placing and transport of these dogs into that household. It ended there until I was pulled back into the conversation when the dogs were given away.

If they were having problems with two additional dogs in the house, LAG would of worked to get them rehomed. Or, exercise the right of *first refusal*. Their side of the story commenced with threats publicly to the group.

Sorry, these two didn't choose to work towards a solution. There solution was to dump the dogs elsewhere. Now the group is pissed. And having watched this from the beginning, I'm pissed too.

Heartbroken by this story. Just wrong, plain and simple. I hope they will be returned safe and sound. It could happen. We see miracles on the internet all the time. I hope this will be one of those times. Good luck to all working to find these pups.

  • Sarah

This is a very old story. A weak, irresponsible woman gets pregnant, or takes up with an abusive man, and dumps her dogs like they were garbage.

  • Shelley Watson

Give me a break!!! Ar you that sick to publish such nonsence??? They saved the dogs and found them good homes!!! Viktor I think your a freak!!! Better watch yourself!

    • They saved the dogs and found them good homes???? BWAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAA!!!

Did you see Sarah's comment? Classic story of family expects baby, family dumps dogs, family expects everyone to bow three times to the east before them.

    • jt waldie

no, YOU had better watch yourself and your self-serving allegations. YOU can be the one in hot water with all that garbage you spew!

  • Rima

No Shelley! You better read the story carefully before threatening anyone (and about that, lol)!

There was no need for all this if the lady replied to her emails, or answered her phone!

Typical story of dumping a dog after "the lady of the house" gets pregnant, as if caring for dogs and being pregnant at the same time was never achieved in history!!!

But they did have a choice! Instead they chose to get rid of the dogs! I don't see how anyone can defend abusers like this!!!

  • this is pure caca if they find good home for this two dogs, why they blocked the whole contact and comunication????? please!!!! be more realistic!!!! they may already had kill those puppies!!!!!!! this is heart broken!!!!! its very sad!!!!

  • Sarah

If this woman could not handle cleaning up after a dog, how is she going to manage caring for an infant? She could have easily relinquished these dogs to the rescue, but chose not to do so, apparently wanting to get the credit for saving the dogs without actually making the effort to do so. Dogs who have been through as much as these have will of course require some special care which she was unwilling to provide.

  • Shelley Watson

Viktor is stealing money! You are donating money to a scam!

  • Carol

The bottom line here, everyone is that both dogs should have been returned to the rescue or foster home they came from. The people leaving the dogs with these two, should know where they live and if a contract was signed, there should be some legal repercussion, the rescue can do.

  • Rachael

Sounds like Shelly maybe Giselle under a pseudonym

    • Close. IP address resolves to Kitchener Ontario. And the email address belongs to a little twerp who rides horses, swims, and likes cats. She has TWO Bengal cats. Watches Jersey Shore.

      AND leaves her Facebook public.

  • Virginia Greenwood-W

No sorry this is absolute rubbish. When you take a dog from a shelter – you commit to taking care of it. No ways on this planet do you just get rid of them. If the shelter where you adopted doesn't want them back there are many other shelters which will but……….as I said, when you choose voluntarily to take an animal into your home, it is for life and with a kind heart you can make it work. People like these two should be named and shamed and the fact that they won't even help get them back to the animals shelter where they got them from just proves exactly what ********************** they are!!!!

  • This is disgraceful.Something is mentally wrong with these 2.Very suspect.Of course the right thing is to return these poor dogs to the rescue they came from.Shelly Watson is illiterate and yes I agree that Shelly is a pseudonym for Giselle

  • Sarah

I had exactly the same thought as Holly; our pal Shelly is obviously a sock puppet. Poor spelling and grammar is a dead giveaway, and these two just keep digging a deeper hole for themselves. In addition to the two rescue dogs, what has become of the Corgi and the Lab they already had?

  • Rima

This Shelley is so constructive, really cares for the dogs!

These 2 people made a huge mistake and anyone who defends them has the IQ of a chicken!

Abuse is abuse regardless of who does it, whether it's a stranger or even your own mother!

  • How bout a stream of Canadian door-knockers? How bout a cruelty charge? How bout a Monty visit? How bout a citizen following where they go? A little surveillance?

  • Lee

We can't expect everyone to be a 'to their dying day' dedicated dog companion.. As angry as those who give their pets away like a piece of furniture away makes me (would they give away their human child? To me it's the same thing..), I cannot pass judgement since everyone has their reasons.. Regardless of whether this couple felt they were over their heads adopting two dogs at once and just couldn't handle it, where they went wrong was not contacting the rescue IMMEDIATELY when their decision to end care for them was made..

Did they sign a contract with you, Andrea? i.e., one that states, 'if you cannot care for the dogs they must be returned to the rescue immediately'? I had to sign a contract for both my dogs, and this was in the agreement.. If so then you are within your right to pursue legal action against them, and demand that they tell you where the dogs are so you can get them back. If you do pursue legal action, be prepared for a potentially long and expensive battle.. But fights like these are definitely worth it..

If this couple do not have the decency of at least replying to your effort at contact, an effort driven by your love of those dogs, then maybe they'll reply to your lawyer's lol… Good luck hun!

    • Thanks for your comments. The two dogs were located and the new owners were contacted and went through the adoption process.

This could all of been avoided if they were upfront with their troubles. Instead the group was threatened right off the bat when inquiries were made. And it went downhill from there.

I only hope that in the future these two think carefully about adopting or fostering again, or this will happen again.

It's over. And I am glad for that.

OMG!! This is just so wrong. Perhaps something happened to these poor little dogs. I know that a week after I adopted my two little girls they came down with PARVO. Everyone said how sad and to let them go. NO WAY!! I adopted the cause they were sooo cute and they were sisters. I didn't take me but a moment to fall in love with them. As the week went by I was hooked. When I found out they had PARVO, I went to extremes to make sure they had 24 hour care. I took them to my vet (Great DR.) and I would pick them up after work and take them to the Emergency Hospital and my Vet would pick them up in the morning and bring them back to his hospital. This lasted a week and I almost lost one of them twice. I called many, many times during the day and night to check on them. Thank God they both pulled through. I didn't care about the money, which by the way I didn't have, but I charged it. God will see a way for me to pay the bill, and he did. Bills were paid and both my little girls are happy, healthy and content girls.

To me this is what it means to own a fur baby. You do all you can and if you can't there are many places willing to help. This couple had the internet and there are so many options out there, instead of just getting rid of them. Getting rid of them could mean they gave them to someone or they turned them loose or they killed them. I would love to know what happened to them. I pray they are safe. If one invest all the time and money to find these babies, then you need to go the extra mile to keep them safe. I agree, that they should NEVER be allowed to adopt another fur baby again.

  • Susie

boy, i am sick of people just getting rid of their dogs – same old story. In almost all adoption contracts, there is a clause that the new adoptive parents must initial stating that if they do not want the dogs, the dogs MUST be returned to the rescue where they came from. An adoption application is a legal binding agreement, and can be used in any court of law.

this couple is wreckless and do not give a hoot about animals, be it a small parakeet (gee, didn't know i had to clean the cage) or a dog.

they should never ever have a furkid in their home. they do not appreciate or care about the love and the bond between a human and a four legger.

  • Jessie

Thank the Lord above they were rescued!!!
