Bitter Custody Battle Over Dog
You hear about this more and more now, people fighting over custody of the family pet. Many times they will relinquish claims on everything else to keep their beloved furred companion. This is becoming especially more prevalent with more and more couples remaining childless thus the dog or cat becomes the surrogate child.
Here is a story of a custody battle over a 13 yr old Golden Retriever named Alex whose owner died of a self inflicted gunshot wound. Seems the deceased’s parents are engaging in this bitter battle as they both see Alex as an ‘extension’ of their son.
Funniest (ironic) thing about it is that there was also about 2 million in assets but the battle was over the dog.
Family dispute leads to attorney for dog – 5/8/07 -MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A man who didn’t have a will left a $2 million estate, but the most highly contested item in court has been his dog.
The family is in a four-way battle over the man’s golden retriever, Alex.
The dispute over the 13-year-old pet was so intense, an attorney was appointed to represent the dog’s interest.
Royal, the dog’s attorney, said he believes all four people love Alex and would take good care of him, but they were using the fight for the dog to punish each other for past transgressions.
“This case is similar to a bitter custody battle involving children where each party loves the children, but the kids are stuck between two people who cannot coexist,” the attorney said in his report. (From 9News.com – For the full story Click here)
