Richmond County Animal Control is asking for the public’s help with a horrendous dog murder case. The tortured and mutilated remains of a male shepherd or terrier mix dog was found in the James River near Forest Hill Park on Tuesday and they’re offering a $2,500 reward in hopes that it will bring some answers.

“It is very evident that the dog was tortured,” said Richmond Public Works representative Amy Capistran.

They’re withholding the gruesome details in an effort to validate tips that come in. The dog did not have collar or tags so there’s no way to know if it was anyone’s pet.

“I’ve always felt like that if someone could treat an animal like that they’re more likely to not show respect for other people too,” said dog owner, Will Herring.

And we know that’s true, that there is a string and definite connection between animal abuse and interpersonal violence. It’s been proven again and again.

This is just one of the reasons that both the Richmond County Animal Control and the police want to find the person who did this and get them off the streets.

A special hotline has been set up through Richmond Animal Control specifically for this case.

That number is 804-646-0300. If you know anything or even have any suspicions, please call and let them know. Who knows what someone like this will do next!
