Update 6/4/09 – Animal Cruelty Charges Dropped Against Cop Who Admitted Beating Dogs

For a cop that thinks he knows so much, quoting that, “it is not against the law to beat your dogs or kids in Virginia, (and that) he knows this because he is a cop,” seems like 32-year-old Newport News cop, Rashad I. Brown, doesn’t know as much as he thinks because was arrested and charged with two counts of animal cruelty.

Responding to a neighbor’s complaint that they witnessed a man kicking one of dogs, and heard him beating another, animal control officer Angie Gromlich went to Brown’s St. Thomas Drive apartment only to be confronted by an arrogant and belligerent Brown siccing his dog, Lilly, a Labrador retriever on her.

First, she said, he commanded his dog — in Spanish — to come out of the apartment and get near the animal control officer. The dog obeyed, growling aggressively, the complaint said.

The animal control officer said she asked Brown “several times” to confine the dog inside.

Instead, with the dog’s nose only two or three inches from the animal control officer, Brown “was laughing and reinforced her aggressive behavior” by telling her ‘Good girl, good girl,” in English, the complaint said.

“Mr. Brown stated that she was doing what she was supposed to do, that he had trained her to be aggressive, and this is what he wanted her to do,” Gromlich wrote. The animal control officer said in the complaint that she felt cornered and feared the dog would attack her. (Daily Press)

Eventually she got Brown to confine his dogs in the apartment where they were both seized by Gromlich and another ACO. Taken to a vet for an examination, fresh bruises and abrasions were found on both dogs.

Rashad Brown was charged with two misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and Crystal Brown, who also lived at the residence, as charged with one count each of having no license for a dog and no rabies vaccination.

And if you can actually believe this one, this ass, Rashad Brown, a patrolman in the city’s north precinct, is still on duty!! Wonder what it takes to have someone removed from duty… and without pay!

This guy beats two dogs, attempts to have one of them attack an animal control officer, acts like he is above the law and the Newport News police department thinks it’s ok to still have him on the streets?? What’s wrong with this picture? Am I the only one who sees a problem here?
