Passionate when it comes to my canine companions as well as dogs everywhere, it's my mission to raise awareness of any issues that affect them, from their health, food and nutrition and training to their welfare. Canine advocacy is something that everyone who cares about dogs needs to be aware of and we all need to share that and raise our voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Decapitated Dog Found

Tuesday evening the police found the body of a dog that had been deliberately decapitated in Kansas City, MO. The dog appeared to be a male 4 yr old shepherd or border collie mix and it was located in the driveway of an apartment complex on Locust Street near East 42nd Street. the dog’s decapitated head was not found and there is no way of knowing if the dog was a stray or someone’s pet.

“It’s a disturbing thing to hear people treating animals like that,” Mullarky, a neighbor who used to walk his dog in the area said.

“It’s absolutely unacceptable. There are humane societies and shelters in place. There’s programs in place that can take these animals,” said Michelle Dormadyof Spay and Neuter Kansas City. “If you witness or see someone abusing their animals or you can’t take care of your animal properly, call a proper facility. Call a humane society. Call a shelter, and let them handle the animal.”

In August on 2007, two dogs were found, each with one of their legs hacked off in Kansas city and police say they cannot be sure whether this has any connection to the earlier cases. Although there was no closure in those cases, both dogs were adopted into new homes and at last report are doing wonderfully.

Dormady said a reward of up to $5,000 was available for a tip that leads to an arrest and conviction in this type of case. She urged anyone with any information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
