That is the most absurd excuse, he ran out of anitdepressants….well, what the hell is a firefighter, someone who is there to serve the public, doing on antidepressants? Sure, he could have had a desk job, but I do not think I would want one of my local firefighters to be that addicted to antidepressants to make that bad of a judgement call. I think that he is saying that just to be able to justify that he had committed murder.

What is wrong with our world now a days that there are so so many people on antidepressants? Oh please, I feel that it is a person’s inner being that makes them depressed. Sure life in general is tough, but get over it. Get high on life, and not depend on medication to get thru your life. (don’t get me wrong, yes, there are some people who temporarily need anti depressants, but to be on them continually, nope, not the smartest thing in the world to do. do people understand what those drugs do to their bodies??? Santuomo is appealing his *firing* BUT, his Union will NOT HELP HIM WITH IT. Hmmmm…what does THAT say about his crimes.

On July 16, Santuomo was fired after 13 years as a Columbus firefighter. His termination was not only a result of murdering his dogs, and the public outrage that ensued, but also for a history of inappropriate behavior, and for violating the Firefighter’s Oath. As it turns out, Santuomo’s inexusable criminal act was preceded by several violations of Columbus Fire Department policies. Those 5 violations include: repeatedly being late for duty, transmitting inappropriate, violent and threatening comments via the firefighter’s dispatch system, and eventually “disgracing” the department by commiting such a senseless act of murdering his dogs.

Other inappropriate conduct by Santuomo included sending a threatening text message to another fire fighter, saying that “there is a funeral in CPD’s future.” Santuomo believed that this fellow firefighter turned him into the Capital Area Humane Society. In addition, Santuomo sent text messages to colleagues and others, which described the scene in his basement, where his dogs met their fate. As quoted in the Columbus Dispatch, Santuomo stated in one text message, “Well, that sucked! Rose took 2 in the head n 1 in the heart. Teddy wouldn’t (go down). Had 2 hit 8 times. I’m gonna get drunk.” In another message, Santuomo bragged, “I won’t get fired. I may have 2 retire with mental disability. That is 100% pay.”
