Dog Death at Groomers
Johnny and Gail King were upset when they went to pick up their 20 month old Lhasa Apso “Bogey” at Happy Tails Pet Spa on Ebenezer Road in West Knoxville on January 12 only to find the groomer’s shop closed and locked up. Shortly thereafter the owner showed up apologizing and claiming an emergency and that’s when upset turned to nightmare for the couple.
Happy Tails owner, Erik Webb, went to the kennels to get Bogey for the Kings.
“When he did come back, he had Bogey in his arms and he said your dog’s dead and he laid him down on the floor and I went over and picked him up and started saying, no he can’t be dead,” Johnny says.
“When our vet did look at Bogey, she said there was hemorrhaging in his eyes that leads her to believe something traumatic did happen to him,” Johnny adds.
Although Webb didn’t want to discuss what happened he did say that he was sorry but that Happy Tails was not responsible for Bogey’s death.
“There was no foul play on our part whatsoever. Basically, I walked down there, the dog was laying on his side and I said, oh my God,” Webb says.
The Kings took Bogey to their vet to be examined and although necropsy result will not be available for several weeks yet the vet did say that Bogey had no history of illness and was up to date with all his medical care.
“When our vet did look at Bogey, she said there was hemorrhaging in his eyes that leads her to believe something traumatic did happen to him,” Johnny said.
“This is not normal. You don’t take a dog to get groomed and go to pick him and he’s dead, knowing he was a healthy dog,” Gail says. The Kings are considering legal action against Happy Tails.
In investigating the business it was discovered that Happy Tails has an unsatisfactory record with the Better Business Bureau which includes four complaints, three of which have been resolved within the last 36 month and the BBB says there are also other complaints pending.
