MilesWhat was supposed to be a routine grooming for one Parma, OH family’s year old poodle puppy turned into their worst nightmare. On Friday afternoon, Narsina Jones dropped Miles off at “Pet’s Choice” on Broadview Road in Parma but when she returned a few hours later to pick up the puppy that had been a gift to her young son and his constant companion, she got the shock of her life.

When she arrived store employees all seemed to disappear for about 20 minutes. Finally someone emerged from the backroom to give Jones the bad news. At first she didn’t believe it but the sight of the puppy brought the whole shocking nightmare to reality.

“He was lying there on the table with this stiff, still image. Looked like he was fried,” says Jones.

Little Miles was the victim of being left in a drying cage for too long. About 15 minutes is the recommended amount of time but the store employee who was caring for Miles stuck him in the cage and for some reason just left. Miles wasn’t found until almost an hour later, far too late for the little dog.

Pet’s Choice groomer, 22-year-old Ashley Weaver, has been fired and is charged with animal cruelty. She’ll be in court some time this week.

Store owner, John Detlich, who was not in the store at the time, is upset and very sorry about the incident. He has a poodle very much like Miles that he offered to Ms. Jones.

This is far from the first incident of a dog dying after being left in a groomer’s drying cage for too long and many groomer have given them up because of the inherent dangers. Even a dog left in one for the “recommended” amount of time is not necessarily safe.

Most of the time, it is a terrible accident but it this case it was complete negligence! Now a mother has to explain to her young son why his puppy will never come home and a store owner will have to deal with the backlash from having a cruel, heartless and negligent employee. What the hell makes a 22-year-old put a puppy into what amounts to an “oven” and walk out just leaving the puppy there telling no one?
