Dog Left in Hot Car by Vet Suffered Heat Stroke – VIDEO

Dr Daniel RandallOne of the very last people you would ever expect to be negligent, to leave a dog in a hot car, is someone who devotes their life to caring for animals but that’s just what happened in Greenville,  SC. Dr. Daniel Randall of the Foothills Veterinary Hospital admits that he left client, Phyllis Burton’s 3-year-old Boston Terrier, Max, in his car. The dog suffered heat stroke and blood clotting.

Dr. Randall broke down talking about the incident, “It breaks my heart this happened on my watch. It is an inexcusable mental lapse for some one in my position. I can’t allow myself to be distracted by all the tasks that are involved in running a busy vet hospital to the degree that it allows things like this to happen.”

And he’s right, regardless of distractions, there is no excuse for what happened!

While transporting Max from the Moonville office to Greenville for a weekend boarding, he says he got busy on the drive, taking phone calls, and when he pulled up to the office his waiting room was full and in his rush, Max was forgotten. Luckily for Max, one of the technicians heard barking coming from the car and rescued the pooch from certain death.

Dr Daniel Randall-MaxAfter emergency treatment including blood transfusions and plasma and a week in the hospital, Max is doing much better now and is home with his family. Needless to say, his family is upset and distraught over this.

“I’m glad he survived, but I hope theres nothing long term, down the road, I hope he doesn’t have to be euthanized because of this accident,” Phyllis Burton said. “He can say he’s sorry but I don’t want any one else’s dog to go through this.”

Dr. Randall has been charged with animal mistreatment and faces court and a fine.

Although there is no excuse and thankfully Max survived, I was pleased to see Dr. Randall step up and take responsibility for his actions and accept the blame. He showed true remorse and didn’t make any excuses. He was wrong and said so. Gotta give the guy points for that, so many just make excuses. I have a feeling that this is a lesson that he will not forget!

Like owner, Phyllis Burton, I hope Max suffers no long term problems from this and recovers completely.

I'm sorry Jeffrey, I have to disagree with you. Although Dr. Daniel Randall is indeed a very busy person, who isn't? I am sorry, there is no excuse, absolutely no excuse in the world for leaving a dog he was transporting in a vehicle like that. This man is a vet, dedicating himself to humane treatment of animals. Is this humane? This is as bad if not worse than leaving a child in a vehicle! And all he is going to get is a fine?

I am glad that Max did survive, and grateful for the employee had heard the barking. I just pray that Max does not have any long term effects from this "accident".

Here again, is our justice system at work. This whole situation could have been prevented had he been thinking about what he was doing, and not rushing around due to phone calls from his office or whomever he was talking to. I think he deserves a bit more than just a fine, and he damn well better not send a bill to this baby's owners. Personally, I would file a civil suit against this man. Where are his ethics??????

Coquito has been aedptod by an amazing woman who also has a feral cat. Apparently, they have all bonded quite nicely. A huge thank you to everyone who reached out to help us out!

My dog went to this vet back in Nov, after seeing another vet for 11 years which he passed away, so I had to find another vet. This one was close to where I live. He charged a out of sight price although he had all the records from the other Vet. I had to work so my husband took him and he didn't know so he didn't say anything when they ran all kind of test which wasn't needed like heart worm test $86 and my dog had been on pills all his life. For the past year I had been ordering them from pet care but when I went to order them again I had to get Dr. Daniel Randall to ok it but he wouldn't and I called to see why ? they told me I had to purchase them from them only. I told them I would be picking up my dog's records on Monday. He will not be going back there. I agree Take this vet’s license away!!

  • Lauren

Patsy, sweetie…your dog does need a heartworm test even if they've been on it every single year of their life. What if by some crazy circumstance the meds didn't work or you missed it and forgot a few months? Giving certain heartworm meds can kill a dog if they're positive. Just sayin…
