Passionate when it comes to my canine companions as well as dogs everywhere, it's my mission to raise awareness of any issues that affect them, from their health, food and nutrition and training to their welfare. Canine advocacy is something that everyone who cares about dogs needs to be aware of and we all need to share that and raise our voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Dog Starved to Skin and Bones, Owner, Reita Huff, Charged – VIDEO

Sheba, starved to 28 poundsSee Update – 11/19/08 – Starved Dog – New Name, New Life and New Look – Amazing!

This is Sheba, a 2 year old Doberman Pinscher and she weighs only 28 pounds! The proper weight for her breed as an adult dog is between 65 – 90 pounds. As you can see, every bone is visible, she has little to no muscle left, a skin covered skeleton!

Last Saturday Sheba was running loose and thankfully was picked up Butler County Animal Friends Humane Society.

“This is one of the worst cases of neglect I have seen,” said humane society Executive Director Meg Stephenson. “Every bone in her body was visible. No animal should ever have to suffer like that.”

Sheba’s owner, Reita Huff, was pulled over on Wednesday, a traffic stop, for operating an unsafe vehicle. She’d been identified as Sheba’s owner and during the stop became combative with officers. They Tasered her!! Maybe I shouldn’t take any pleasure in that, but take a look at that poor dog!

Sheba, starved to Skin and Bones

Huff, who has prior animal cruelty violations, was charged with two counts of cruelty to a companion animal, failure to confine and failure to obtain a license as well as resisting arrest and assault on a police officer.

Sheba, who has been in the care of Animal Friends for a week now, is responding to care and has gained 5 pounds already. She’ll be placed in a foster home until she’s healthy and can be adopted.

Hopefully Huff will be facing some stiff penalties although animal cruelty sentences seldom, if ever, fit the crime.

28lbs!!!!!! OMG!!! what is wrong with that woman. tasering was easy. i’m so glad that I was not the 1 that found Sheba. that “person” has had prior animal cruelty violations. she needs 2 be stopped!!!!
look at that face….at least she’s gained 5lbs~maybe more by this time. hang in there, baby girl, u’re gonna get a great home n live a long time….

  • Jen

tasering was too easy on her….let we animal lovers at her… look at the face on this baby.. At least now she’s away from that awful woman and she’ll get a good home with love, attention and proper treatment. Thank goodness she was found in time.

My heart aches for sweet Sheba. I hope by time I reading that she is doing much better. Bet she is getting the most loving then she ever got before. Being her owner has been sighted before for animal issues I feel that her fines etc she be higher just do to the
previous ones didn’t stop from doing it again. Also I think they should give her some jail time and keep her
from getting anymore animals. My prayers are with Sheba,
    hugs baby gurl.

unfortunately, the tazer was probably the hardest punishment she will get. abuse laws for animals as well as children, need to be stiffened up to fit the crime. you beat, you get beat, you starve, you get starved. that’s the only way it seems someone can be made to understand that it’s wrong. ‘do unto others’ works both ways in my book when it comes to the defenseless.

  • Hi Group and Jen we must see the same face because Sheba she is a cute doggie how could you not fall for that face I would let her take my food off my plate befor I would let her go hungary the wife gets mad at me for feeding my doggies of my plate but when they look at me with them eyes its hard for me not to ……jeffrey

Please keep us updated on Sheba’s progress and on the results of the court case…if there are petitions to sign addressed to the courts and the district attorney…I will certainly sign them. Thanks

also, let’s see the face of the abuser….we need a posting of all the faces of all the abusers….do not marry them, do not do business with them, do not make babies with them…we need to know who they are….you might meet one in a club one night and share a drink…and never have a clue…..we need to know their faces.

First – starve the cruel person. Give her the same rations she gave this beautiful creature. Education is useless on some people – they need to feel what it’s like. Ban her from ever owning animals of any sort again. Tazer her till she simply can’t handle it anymore and I agree with roseanne – we need faces of all abusers clearly displayed.

  • Admin

@roseanna@Virginia Greenwood-Warner – Whenever I can, I do post the faces of these POS’s and yes, I agree, people need to see them, to see the kind of people who do this. Scary thing is, these people usually look like anyone just like so many other criminals.
