Hello Jamie, you are an angel!! Thank you...thank you so very much for just being who you are. If the world were full of people like you, not one innocent precious animal would suffer. I honor you for what you did for Gabby. It is appauling that this kind of stuff goes on in a place called a "dog shelter", "humane society" or any other facility that houses so many precious angels. Needless euthanasia...somehow this needs to be stopped all together.

I have six dogs and one cat, and if I could have more I would. I've been blessed to have many "all rescued" pets in my life. I am also dedicated to the well-being of these precious gifts we are blessed with.

Animals do not have a voice...we all need to join together and stop the insanity of the ill treatment of animals. Again, thank you Jamie...with all my heart I wish you as many blessings that may be bestowed on one person. Big hugs to you...friend. Animal lover forever, Carole.

Jamie, i would have done the same thing. You are such a wonderful person standing up for these animals. I sure wish all shelters were run by women alone because men just don't have any sense to care for animals. Men just aren't the caring type. @Andria Wilson -

I guess whom ever started this site should update it because there is a new mayor and there is someone different running the shelter. And during the investigation there was no proof that GABBY the dog was even at this shelter!! But no one would post that on this site.

I think the Mayor and, whoever runs this shelter where Gabby, was euthanised should all be FIRED, right out the door. This place obviously needs to be investigated. Also, sounds like it wouldn't hurt to have it shut down as well.

I personaly think Dr Phillips is full of shit. Why would anyone make up a story like this? Praise to Jamie for being a caring person. I personaly think the poor dog wasnt euthanised in the 1st place to save money and just dumped alive in the freezer??? I am so glad in the Uk are animal shelters are all run by regulated charities like the RSPCA and Cat protection league, none of the animals get euthanised unless they are ill or a banned breed.

The problem lies not with animals... but with Man.....
Spay, Neuter, close down back yard breeders, close down puppy mills....Stop making it so hard to adopt, In some places it is harder to adopt a pet then to adopt a Human.... Just went through this ..I know for a fact this it true, here in Danville va..... Let people volunteer at shelters... that want to do this ... I have 5 years experience in a Veterinary hospital with papers....... and was turned down for volunteering .... here in Danville va .... because i am 66 years old ....
After a pet is adopted... send out a volunteers from time to time to check on it ...
Stop killing animals..... find homes for them....

The fact remains that the animals are the victims here. Everyone on this board can bicker all they want about who's to blame for what, but the animals have no choice. They're at the mercy of the nitwit Rushville politicians and beauracracy. Maybe Jaime Glandon won't allow anyone to examine Gabby because she's afraid Gabby will be taken away. This animal control facility needs a major overhaul. Hmm, it doesn't sound like much of that $90K budget is being used to improve the animals' well being. These animals need a shelter where they'll be treated humanely and lovingly. And a question for Dr. Phillips - why don't you think spay/neuter will help solve the pet over population problem? You say that, "to be really low cost corners have to be cut and the animals suffer." Since when? There are many, many successful low cost spay/neuter programs in this country. You sound like you're making excuses. Make it work in Rushville, Dr. Phillips, I'm sure you'll have lots of support. Shouldn't you have what is best for all animals at heart?

Lastly, WTF is with the euthanasia practices at this animal control?! I work in the veterinary field, and we NEVER administer euthanasia solution via the liver or heart. Proper, effective administration is venous, that way it travels right to the heart and the animal passes virtually immediately. In fact, it passes before the injection is even complete. The amount administered is based on weight. Of course, it's easier to stick a needle in an animal's heart or side than to find a vein, have someone hold the animal, then correctly administer the injection, but it's infinitely more humane. And if anyone thinks they don't realize what's happening, think again. Dogs and cats especially are much more sentient than we give them credit for.

The plight of shelter animals is heartbreaking. If most of them will never know life outside of the shelter, then we are obliged to make their lives in it as comfortable and loving as possible, and their deaths, as pain-free and peaceful as our very best abilities will allow. Human beings created the need for shelters and until we've eliminated them, we are owe their residents the best possible lives we can give them.

Would like to know an update on this. This story has really touched alot of us and I hope for the best for Gaby.
Jamie, I would have done the same thing. I want to thank you for being on the side of the animals even when it gets tough.
I think that if there was a place that the community could go to for low cost vet treatments, there wouldn't be so many unwanted animals. Shame on the vets that won't help provide that. I guess it shows that they are not in business for their love for the animals. The community needs to band together to get a low cost vet hosipital, it really would help solve the problem. Think of it this way, as it has been mentioned by the good vet, two unnuetered cats can produce thousands of kittens. If they were spayed and nuetered those thousands would not be in the shelter needing food, cages, cleaning, and most of all meds to put them down, freezers, and disposal fees. Maybe some of those expences could be better spent preventing the problem.
Good Luck to all involved, especially Gaby.

This is as bad if not worse then the Michael Vick incident. These people are being jpaid to treat animals humanely and its a far cry from that. This should be treated as a criminal act.
