Friends, regarding Hurricane Sandy, I am trying to keep FTLTD’s Facebook page updated with info to help keep pet owners updated with help, safety and evac info in some of the different areas.  Following is some of the info I’ve found, please read and share.  I’ll add more as I find it.

Stay safe, be prepared – there’s a quick pet disaster checklist and info on pet friendly accommodations – In the Path of the Storm – Pet Safety Preparedness

NYC Residents – Under New York City Law:
• During times of evacuation, a cab driver may not turn down a fare who is bringing a pet along.
• An evacuation center must accept any pet as long as he/she is accompanied by a human and either leashed or in a carrier.

Philly, PA area friends – Please keep your pets INDOORS & should your home experience flooding, work with emergency personnel to leave safely. Have leashes, collars & carriers ready to go if you live in a flood zone. Emergency responders are able to answer your questions about taking your pets with you & emergency shelters are prepared to house them. Pet Friendly Emergency Shelters are located at

West Philadelphia HS (4901 Chestnut St), Roxborough HS (6498 Ridge Ave) & Samuel Fels HS (5500 Langdon St) beginning at 4 pm today. If asked to evacuate you will not be told to leave your pets behind so be ready to take them with you! Red Paw Emergency Relief Team is prepared to assist evacuees as well. Please stay safe!
