Richard N. Taylor, 46, of the 21000 block of Cubbage Pond Road claims that he “he wanted to put the dog out of his misery because the dog had health problems.” Somehow this just does not ring true with the brutality he acted upon the poor dog.

SPCA received a cruelty complaint Oct. 30 about the dog, alleging that Taylor beat his dog Bossman with a pickax handle and then buried him alive in the backyard.

“We went there Oct. 30 and interviewed Taylor and got a search and seizure warrant Oct. 31 to exhume the remains,” said Delaware Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Executive Director John E. Caldwell.

According to court records, Taylor make the statement during a meeting that “he hit his dog Bossman with a pic axe several times, possibly shot it and then buried it while it was still alive.”

After the dog’s body was exhumed, a necropsy was performed which “revealed that dirt was present in the canine’s oral cavity and nasal passageways indicating the dog was still breathing when it was buried, according to court records.”

“If the dog was deceased at the time of burial, it would not likely present with a closed mouth and significant dirt accumulation,” the veterinarian report indicated.

A warrant for Taylor’s arrest was issued this past Tuesday and Taylor was arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty in the death of his 10-year-old pet Boxer he buried alive in his backyard.

Taylor was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution after failing to post $500 bail and if convicted of the felony offense, he could face a $5,000 fine and/or five years in jail.

I just cannot even fathom this! If an animal is sick, wouldn’t one normally take it to a vet for care or if it was beyond that point, humane euthanasia? To brutally beat, shoot and then bury a dog alive takes some kind of a very sick and twisted person.

Just to imagine the torture and agony this poor dog was subjected to by the person he probably loved and trusted beyond all others… How the hell could he do it?!?
