matthew-carl-hubacherMatthew Carl Hubacher, 25 of New Eagle, PA is obviously a bit of a wacko nuctcase. While walking along a trail in Rostraver Township he went to pet a dog in a yard. After a moment he picked the dog up and slammed it down saying it had the devil in it claimed neighbors who witnessed the incident.

“I thought about, maybe, he’s not the friendliest person, and I guess maybe I was right,” said Lisa Seich, a neighbor.

“He went to pet their dog and he turned on the dog and he picked it up and threw it down and said it had the devil in it,” said Jeff Seich, a neighbor.

Then he picked up a cinder block and beat the dog in the head and face and also threatened the dog owner when they showed up as well as contractors working on a neighboring property. He claimed to be God and said the the dog was the devil.

devil_dogHubacher was held at bay until police arrived at which time he took off running, leading them on a three hour chase through the woods and into the Youghiogheny River. Hubacher was eventually captured and was being held at the Westmoreland County Prison on $50,000 bond, charged with animal cruelty, escape, terroristic threats and simple assault.

The dog, Spike, is recovering and other than being agitated seems little worse for wear baring some minor facial injuries.

I guess we can be thankful there were people to intervene before things got too out of hand and also be glad that this nutcase didn’t come across some child and decide that it was the devil.  Hopefully the powers that be will see that Hubacher needs to be away from society for the good of anyone he may come in contact with.  This is a seriously disturbed and scary individual!
