What could possible bring someone to beat a tiny little puppy to death? How depraved and sick this person must be!

A Lubbock man is under investigation in connection with the death of an 8-week-old Daschund puppy.

The 22-year-old suspect in the dog’s death was released from the Lubbock County Jail on Wednesday. Police did not release the man’s name, citing an ongoing investigation.

At about 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, Lubbock police were called to Savannah Oaks Apartments, 5204 50th St., in response to a civil disturbance where a dog had been beaten, said Kevin Overstreet, Animal Services manager.

A neighbor told officers he heard a commotion coming from inside the man’s apartment. When he went to investigate the noise, the witness said he saw the puppy on the floor, unable to get up.

Overstreet declined to elaborate on the details of the puppy’s death.

The man was arrested and charged with public intoxication and evading arrest or detention. He has not been charged with animal cruelty.

Lubbock police detectives are gathering more information on the case and will present it to the Lubbock County Criminal District Attorney’s Office for review.

Animal cruelty is a class A misdemeanor. If the man is charged with the puppy’s death, he could face up to two years in the Lubbock County Jail.

Overstreet said there is not a law that he knows of that prevents people charged with animal cruelty from adopting animals. (Lubbock Online)

Two years in jail will not make up for what he did to that tiny defenseless puppy but it’s definitely much better than most of the ‘slap on the wrist’ sentences I see handed out to these vile abusers!
