Passionate when it comes to my canine companions as well as dogs everywhere, it's my mission to raise awareness of any issues that affect them, from their health, food and nutrition and training to their welfare. Canine advocacy is something that everyone who cares about dogs needs to be aware of and we all need to share that and raise our voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Mutilated Puppy, $2500 Reward

Cirrus, 2 mo old puppy mutilated Meet Cirrus, a sweet and cute little 2-month-old shepherd-mix.

In September Cirrus was found bleeding, shaking and crying after he crawled out from under a trailer in Las Lomas, California. The dogs ear and tail had been chopped off with scissors to make him look mean. He was also starved, malnourished, emaciated and dehydrated.

“There’s no doubt (the puppy) suffered great pain and distress,” said SPCA veterinarian Carol Iida in a statement. “His tail had two cuts, as though the owner hit bone on the first attempt and had to try again.”

Salvador Romero-Herrera, who was living at the trailer, was arrested and charged with two felony counts of animal cruelty: torture and mutilation of an animal and deprivation of food, water and shelter. Romero-Herrera skipped out without attending his arraignment and now he is wanted.

To show the seriousness of this crime, the SPCA has posted a $2500 reward.

“It’s a pretty high reward, because we feel there may be some people in the area that know something and have not come forward,” said SPCA Humane Investigations Supervisor Judi Adams. “This was a very painful and horrendous act of animal cruelty against this little dog, and we want the person who did this to be held accountable for the crime.”

Although ear and tail cropping are not illegal in California, if not done by a trained and knowledgeable expert it can be extremely painful and torturous as is was for little Cirrus.

The cuts to Cirrus’ ears and tails were “not done neatly,” Adams said. “(Romero-Herrera) clearly didn’t know what he was doing. He told a person in the area he just wanted the dog to look mean and act mean.”

Cirrus and his two littermate sisters are being cared for by the SPCA until the cased is closed.

TO HELP

Anyone with information on the mutilation of a puppy in Las Lomas in September is asked to contact the SPCA at 373-2631 or www.spcamc.org. All calls and e-mails are confidential. Anyone providing information that leads to a conviction in the case will be eligible for a $2,500 reward.

If you know where this man is, don’t let him get away this cruel crime! Who knows what he may do next?

Well it’s simple, when this savage is caught, we should just use a rusty blad and slice his ears off slowly and because he doesn’t have a tail, maybe we should do exactly what he did to the puppy, 2 tries on another part of his anatomy then we should look at our handiwork. Will this trash look mean to match his cruel nature? No he will look like a tragic frightened idiot!!!! Oh I hope he is caught because ten to one this is not the first puppy he’s done this to. Can you just try to imagine – How can people be so cruel???

  • Totaly agree, what a beautiful little dog, why do people do these awful things? My heart weeps for these poor babies.
