And here’s yet another sad story of people’s inhumanity to our canine companions. I read this story with tears in my eyes and wondered, how could anyone do something like this??

National group ups reward in Mobile dog cruelty case
The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for mutilating a puppy in Mobile. The total pledge including $500 from the Animal Defense Council is now $3,000.
According to the Mobile Animal Shelter, the 12-week-old puppy, now named ?Sugar,? was found by a passerby in the Trinity Gardens area across from Chastain Middle School and brought to the animal shelter on April 6.
The puppy’s two hind paws were missing, and she was taken to a veterinarian who treated the dog’s injuries. The veterinarian believes that someone may have tied rubber bands around the puppys hind legs as long as one month prior to the dog?s rescue, resulting in a slow amputation of the paws and lower legs.
The Mobile Animal Shelter is investigating the case. Contact Director Bill Fassbender or Ellen Larsen at (251) 208-2801 if you have any information.
The connection between animal cruelty and human violence is well documented. This week is Animal Cruelty/Human Violence Awareness Week.
The HSUS First Strike Campaign raises public awareness and educates communities about this connection while providing a variety of resources to law enforcement agencies, social work professionals, educators, legislators and families.
The HSUS offers rewards in animal cruelty cases across the country and works to strengthen laws against animal cruelty.
For more information, contact Jen Hobgood, program coordinator for The HSUS Southeast Regional Office at (850) 386-3435, firstname.lastname@example.org or Karen L. Allanach at (301) 548-7778, email@example.com . You can also go to www.hsus.org/firststrike.
Now, if you’re like me, you’re probably a bit teary eyed and more than a little angry right now! This is just one of the reasons we, as dog and animal lovers, have to work to try to get stronger laws and legislation passed against the kinds of ‘people’ that would commit atrocities like this!
And if you’re in the Mobile area, if you hear, kmow or see anything, step forward and speak for one of those who can’t speak for themselves!!
