Passionate when it comes to my canine companions as well as dogs everywhere, it's my mission to raise awareness of any issues that affect them, from their health, food and nutrition and training to their welfare. Canine advocacy is something that everyone who cares about dogs needs to be aware of and we all need to share that and raise our voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Oprah, Going to the Dogs – Puppy Mill Dogs!

OprahIf you’re an Oprah fan, dog lover, dog advocate, this is one show you’re not going to want to miss!! On April 4, Oprah is doing a segment on puppy mills and this should really help to bring more awareness to this horror. The segment is called “Lisa Ling Investigates the Hidden World of Puppy Mills” and it will be airing this coming Friday.

Seems a group placed a huge billboard near where Oprah tapes her shows begging her to address the puppy mill problem and obviously this got her attention and she followed-up. I applaud the group and Oprah. This is a topic that desperately needs to be addressed and people need to know.

Now I’m not a TV watcher or Oprah fan but this is one even I’m going to try to see because this is a subject very close to my heart. Puppy mills are houses of horror and Oprah has some serious clout and I most sincerely that people will watch and see and understand. So many people don’t even know or realize that puppy mills exist or what they are.

Oprah Winfrey plans to dedicate a show investigating abuses at puppy mills to her cocker spaniel, Sophie, who died last month from kidney failure.

“Sophie gave me 13 years of unconditional love. She was a true love in my life,” Winfrey says on the broadcast scheduled to air Friday. (Advance remarks from the show were released Tuesday by Harpo Productions.)

The show features special correspondent Lisa Ling investigating puppy mills, which Ling calls “horrific” and “haunting.”

Winfrey says the show is “for anybody anywhere who loves a dog, has ever loved a dog, or just cares about their basic right to humane treatment.”

While Sophie was not a product of a puppy mill, and Winfrey’s three current dogs were adopted from breeders, Winfrey says in the future she would look to adopt from an animal shelter.

“I would never, ever adopt another pet now without going to a shelter to do it. I am a changed woman after seeing this show,” she says. (AP)

So please, get the word out, let your friends and family know. Let’s help to raise awareness and by doing this, people will demand change. We can make the difference!

Too bad that Oprah doesn’t quite walk the walk. Last year, she purchased her 3 Goldens from a breeder that is only a step above a puppy mill.

Sandar Golden Retrievers has been sanctioned by the AKC, after the owner was convicted of multiple Animal Control violations in LA County. At the time, the breeder, Jennifer Arn, had over 75 dogs in her possession, and is now suspended by AKC. She moved from LA and changed her name, apparently in order to “get a fresh start”. Do a little research to find evidence of Sandar Golden Retrievers history.

I happened to be a Golden lover I have Angel who is 6 years old and in May of 2009 I purchased a puppy from Jeniffer Arn. You are so full of shit, this is the best dog I have ever gotten, she knows very well what she is doing when she breeds her dogs. My Bella is not only beautiful, but healthy and very smart, mellow and has a great personality. Did you ever buy a Golden from Jeniffer, if you didn’t then don’t flap you jaws.
