A horrific sight greeted animal control officers when they investigated after receiving a call regarding a dead dog in an abandoned Philadelphia schoolyard at 27th and Huntingdon. A pregnant pitbull hung, chained to a fence. She had been brutally abused, beaten and tortured to death then her body just left like some kind of macabre exhibit for anyone to see.
The area surrounding the poor dog’s tortured body was covered with debris, rocks and chunks of concrete, many covered in blood, obviously used to torture the defenseless dog to death.
“Just to think someone could throw something at an animal like that and hear it cry out and continue to throw stuff at the dog… it’s heartbreaking,” said Officer Wayne Smith of the PA SPCA.
Imagine the torment, the pain, the suffering that innocent and defenseless creature went through as she was stoned and beaten to death! Imagine the heartlessness and callousness of the sad excuse of a human being or beings who did that to her.
The SPCA released the graphic pictures below in hopes that someone might have some information that would lead to the arrest of the monster(s) who could do something like this. Saddest thing is, even if they ever do find them, this crime, this abominable torture of a defenseless and innocent creature can only be charged as a misdemeanor meaning probably no jail time.
There has been a $1000 reward posted by the SPCA for information leading the arrest of the criminal or criminals in this case. Anyone with information is asked to call the SPCA at 215-426-6300.
If you know anything, if you have any information at all, please call! The kind of person or people who could do something like this could possibly do the same to other animals or people, innocent children. No one is safe from such depravity!
I was really enjoying the story of OOGY – it was a happy ending that made me feel good. Then I read this.

AIR, can’t even imagine the kind of vicious monster who could do something so repugnant and depraved. I’ll tell ya something though, I’d be scared to run into anyone who could do this, who knows what else they could or would do!
i would like to run into them. i think the same thing they did to this poor defenseless dog needs to happen to them. and people call dogs animals what do we call people that have no hearts or a conscience to be able to do this. are you telling me no one saw or heard anything? and those that did and im sure someone did they are just as guilty for allowing it to happen instead of doing anything
This is so disturbing…..I can hardly take it. This is such a sick world we live in and it breaks my heart that someone can do this and get way with it….big deal a slap on the wrist!! This is horrible….if found they deserve what they get and more…..and much much more….I hope they are found with chains around their necks!!!
How cruel can this world get! This is a heartbreaking and very disturbing. I practially cried when I was reading this story. When the person who did this to a poor defenseless dog i hope they go to prision for 10 yrs, because he killed the babies too.

This is so beyond me, how ppl. can be so monsterous and cruel and abusive and be a torturer of a pregnant animal no less is just so sickening to me, and will receive a fine for this monsterous act!!!!! something has got to change. we are telling ppl. they can do what they want because there will be no punishment. today is a very sad day for me.
Hi – do you have a link to the original info? Philly.Com published an article that says the dog was male – which would make pregnancy a challenge. I’m going to try and call them, but I was hoping you might have the original source?

Alison, that’s pretty strange considering the pictures show quite clearly that the dog is a female. I’ve read the story from numerous different sources and this is the first one claiming the dog was a male. Well, no one ever said the media was infallible.

Oh, I wish I could find the ones who did this. What is the matter with people anymore? It’s very discouraging. What is just as discouraging is that the laws aren’t tough enough to punish these heinous abusers. Deanna, do you really thing not much would be done if these monsters were caught? I hope that’s not the case.
ugh! if i read one more story like this i’m going to go berzerk and become a roving vigilante patrolling for dog murderers. these sick monsters should not be allowed to get away with these atrocities. killing for one i will never understand, but killing for absolutely no reason is sickening and scary. these people belong in a cage. dogs have always been the most honest and loving creatures i have ever encountered. this makes me sick to my stomach. there needs to be justice.

Wow. A $1000 dollar reward. That’s all this dog’s life is worth? I’d pay a lot more than that to see the savage who did this suffer. Prison is too good for a person who could do something like this. I hope this person dies a slower, more painful death than the dog did. I don’t care if I sound like a psycho. I’d do anything in my power to see this person go through what that dog had to go through.
I just received an email saying that the guys from Rescue Ink are going out there to try and find the person/people who did this. They are raising a $5,000 reward.
What a sick world there. If I have the power to punish this person, I will do the same to what this person to this poor dog. This dog didn’t deserve to be treated like that. This person should be punished to his/her last breath. This person really makes me sick!!!!

I had to contain myself for a few minutes before this post…I momentarily lost my religion. A pregnant dog for God’s sakes! Suffice to say how wonderful indeed if that “thing” responsible for this outrage could find himself in the very same situation. Thanks for allowing me to vent.

Why a misdemeanor?? WHY?! Can somebody please tell me why? That was an innocent, loving life that was taken. If that was a human being, whoever did this would get life or the death penalty. What makes this so different? An innocent victim is an innocent victim, regardless if it’s human or animal.
This is THE most important question on this thread. The answer lies within us all, as voters, as tax payers, as members of the human race. Please take some time to write to your legislators and give animal cruelty laws TEETH. Let your candidates know that this an issue that’s on the table when we vote, no matter where we live. We can all moan and gnash our teeth, but we have it within our power to change the lives of the voiceless everywhere. Meaningful penalties are the only thing that will stop the horrors suffered by this poor dog and all the others that will surely be read about in the future.

This is so sad. Punishments need to be SO much harsher. Kids need to be taught compassion for animals throughout their school years. Any violence is wrong, no matter what species the victim is. Murder is murder! It is terrifying to think that people like this get a slap on the wrist, IF they get caught, and are free to torture & take more lives! We need to demand better laws to put these people away for life to protect humans & animals of all kinds!
This is so sickenly disgusting. Shockingly horrific. I wish I were dead to not have to hear about such wickedness caused to innocent animals by the hands of my fellow human beings. Animal Cops should be able to give the monsters the death penalty. May she rest in peace.
This is what is wrong with the world today! It seems like their parents never put them in their place when they were younger. I know if my kids ever did anything like this they would be in a world of hurtin. I would turn them in and would regret nothing! I hope this dog is in peace with her babies!
Where is the parents of these kids? I am a single mom, but I know where all three of mine are at any given moment. My kids ever even thought of acting innappropriate, there will be hell to pay. I hope theses little bastards are locked up for along time. This poor women has lost everything behind their actions. This is so sad.

Sadly, this is not an uncommon event in Philadelphia and the laws are not harsh enough. Did you know that in Philadelphia a dog does not need walls for it to be considered shelter? Shelter can be open on all four sides with a rotten piece of wood for a roof and it is considered shelter!!!!
Another thing is the city’s pet population is out of control. Yet the PSPCA, the organization responsible for animal control, does not require a dog license (required by law) to be purchased when an adoptions occurs. Furthermore, their cruelty investigators rarely, if ever, ask for proof of a license. This is a huge source of revenue that could go to animal control and cruelty investigation that is not being used. Why not?
Oh D, I read part of this, cried, closed it out, came back, and did the same thing over and over. I too am at a loss for words. This has to be the most violent act of cruelty, and this poor little girl did not have a chance for herself or her babies. I hope and pray that whoever did this is caught, sentenced harshly, but moreso come Judgement Day, this person is swept down immediately to the bowels of hell where he belongs.
Makes me want to go home and hug my boys more than I do, cry into their necks and tell them that there are some horrible people out there in our world.

I am all for bringing back “cruel and unusual” punishment. Drawing/quartering, you name it, stoning in public, whoever did this, deserves it.
And people blame pit bulls for being “monsters”? The real monsters are those who mistreat defenseless animals, as well as those who are so quick to judge a dog by basis of breed alone.
Im sad to say that this story really didnt surprise me, it seems that more and more of these animal abuse cases are happening more and more everyday. But like the others, i cant understand how someone could just strait up toture any animals much less a PREGNANT dog! the way i look at it is, these dogs arent just animals they have a life too. so whoever did this deserves the same type of punishment as if they had killed and tortured a human. If it were up to me I would do the same thing they did to the dog to them. tie them up stone them to death. and those poor poor puppies well they just never had a chance. and you know what im thankful they didnt. more puppies equals more abuse. so in a way they are lucky they were never born into this cruel cruel world. there back in puppy heaven where it is safe.
The world needs to stop and look around what kinda of people are walking around you? What do you think would stop them from chainging you up and doing the same to you. I tell you nothing these are very sick creatures their human they are the devil in the purest form. Everyone know all serial kiiier start by killing animals, something to small to defend itself. Next will be children or defenseless people they are too big of coward to do anything like this and let anyone know. I too wish they have to go through the pain that this poor dog and her poor little babies did, someday, and realize at that point what they did. I know what needs to be done is animals rights laws that have some teeth in them, so that when something like this happens even if its a juvenile, that is adequate punishment to make them understand how bad it was. Yeah parents are sadly to blame a lot of the time, but if anyone has ever been to school. church, movies, tv. they know right from wrong and there is no excuse. Never that would be good enough for me.. Lets do something to make laws happen
This is absolutely horrid. I can understand if you do not like your dog and want to get rid of it, but this is not okay. I cannot belive that somebody would do this to a expecting mother.

This is a very sad story.No animal should be treated like this.people like this should not have pets.people should be made to go through a background check and everything else before they are allowed to have a pet so something like this can never happy to animal again..I have a dog and i love him so nuch i could never even think about hurting him he is part of my family..I hope this person gets caught and has to really pay for what they did to her and her unborn puppie..

The people who did this are not human. The dog is more of a human being than the people who perpetuated this action. The capability to do this to a pregnant dog is indicative of their capability to harm human beings too. Tougher laws, please.
