oliver_ears_cut_off1 This cute little puppy is Oliver, a 3-month-old pitbull mix that was dumped off at Hollister Animal Shelter with his ear crudely cut off, probably with scissors and most likely without any kind of anesthesia.

Hollister transferred Oliver to the Montery County SPCA and he is doing quite well now. He’s playful and spunky with a non-stop wagging tail but if you try to get near his ears he will yelp and cry.

The SPCA is trying to find out who did this and is offering a reward of $1000 for information about the heartless trash that mutilated this little guy.

“He is a very sweet puppy and we are hoping that someone comes forward with information,” said Beth Brookhouser, director of community outreach with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for Monterey County. “This is something that shouldn’t be done with a puppy.”

“There were raw wounds, less than a week old (when he arrived) and very crude – probably done with a pair of scissors with no anesthesia,” she said.

If you have information regarding Oliver, you can call the SPCA at (831) 373-2631 or 422-4721 extension 213 or use SPCA’s online reporting form at www.spcamc.org/index.html.

You can also confidentially report information regarding Oliver to the Hollister Police Department through the WeTip hotline, (800) 78-CRIME.

It seems we’re seeing more of this cruel crime, something that is usually done to make dogs look tougher, to get them ready for dogfighting. There is no doubt someone does know something and hopefully a $1000 reward will help to refresh a few memories.

Can we help by getting the word out, especially if you live on the west coast or have connections there; email this, post it to groups and forums.  Let see if we can’t find some justice for this little guy!
