Dog severely starved and abandoned This poor dog, starved to skin and bones, was abandoned along Blodgett Mills Road, Cortland County, NY. Last Saturday a family found him and tried nursing him back to health. It didn’t take long for them to figure out that the dog, in such a seriously emaciated condition was going to need medical care to survive.

The boxer or boxer mix, weighed only 15 pounds when he should weigh around 40 pounds and is in such sad shape there’s no way to know if he’s 6 month or 2 years old.

“It’s one of the worse cases that I’ve seen in the six years that I’ve done this,” said Bill Carr of the Cortland County SPCA. “It appears that it was kept in a small cage crate because now it’s body is malformed from being in that type of circumstance for so long.”

Investigator Carr said Peanut was near death because he has no body fat and his muscle was wasting away to burn calories. Peanut’s tail has also been chopped off and he has infected soars. But that’s not stopping him from being friendly and active.

“I’ve seen other dogs in this condition but none that thrive as much as he, he just has a lion’s heart,” said Cortland SPCA Director Donna Davie.

Animal shelter director, Donna Davie has big plans for this little survivor that she named Peanut. “I’m going to be doing a lot of presentations with local schools and so he’ll go with me to the classrooms and meet lots of kids and be a spokesperson for the SPCA.”

But the Courtland County SPCA would like to know who did this to this poor dog, anyone who wants to help or has information can contact the Cortland County SPCA at 607-423-1357.

“The law enforcement division of the Cortland County SPCA is offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this canine’s condition,” Carr said.
