Passionate when it comes to my canine companions as well as dogs everywhere, it's my mission to raise awareness of any issues that affect them, from their health, food and nutrition and training to their welfare. Canine advocacy is something that everyone who cares about dogs needs to be aware of and we all need to share that and raise our voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Shreveport Woman Drags Dog to Death

Seyaugry Ruffins, not knowing that her husband tied the lead of their nine month old pitbull, Bosco, to the hitch of their pick-up truck the night before after he got loose, took the truck for work and drove halfway across town from her house off Jewella Avenue, down Interstate 20 and to her job in Shreve City, dragging the dog behind her.

She didn’t know about it until she was pulled over by the police at East Kings Highway and Youree Drive after another motorist called 911 on their cellphone.

“He said to me, “Do you know you have a dog hanging on the back of your truck?’ Ruffins said. “And I said, ‘What?’ When I got out, it’s like somebody hit me; my legs gave way.”

She and he husband both face charged of animal cruelty through negligence. On top of that they are also facing charges stemming from how the other pit bulls at their home are kept, breeding without a permit, no proper enclosure and no rabies shots. They could face a fine of up to $500 on each charge.

  • I apologize I am just now seeing this article. This sickens me. None of us can imagine the pain and terror this poor dog experienced. Having your flesh ripped off, to the bone…Probably screaming for help and no one listening.

It is not enough for the owners to simply be fined. This is far beyond a fine and slap on thw wrist. If someone dragged THEM two feet or across town, ask them how forgiving they would be? If someone did this to a person, they’d get the death penalty. So, why is it okay to do it to an animal?

We all make mistakes and forget things. If you tie your pet to the bumper and drive off, that does not fall within the category of what is forgiveable. People are in such a hurry thinking about themselves, they forget how their actions (or lack of) can kill or hurt others.

Breeding dogs is also wrong. With all the animals being euthanized every minute and all the homeless animals, how dare they breed even more dogs. Are they going to tie them to their bumper, too? People like this don’t deserve to raise a cactus.
