In November, Cem Basoflas, a 20-year-old KU student from Instanbul, Turkey who is in the US on a student visa was arrested on charges of animal cruelty and criminal sodomy. The body of a dog he had adopted was later found at an undisclosed location.
Yesterday Basoflas pleaded guilty to two felony counts of felony animal cruelty as well as one act of abuse last year involving a cat that survived.
As part of his plea he will not fight deportation back to his native Instanbul, Turkey. His sentencing is scheduled May 8 and will remain in custody until his deportation. He will also serve 30 days “shock time” and have to get a psychological evaluation.
Well, I have to say this is one man that I am glad will not be on the street here is the US but I do pity the animals of his native homeland when he goes back there. He is one seriously sick bastard and has some major problems. At least he won’t be able to get his filthy hands on any more innocent defenseless animals here. Just get rid of him, we have enough sick psychopaths here without having to import them.

How was he able to adopt an animal if he was here on a student visa? What would he do to a human? Let them show him the ropes in our prison system and maybe he won’t be able to do anything like that ever again. Let one of the good ole boys show him just what it feels like.
Pat, it’s believed he got them from an ad in a paper, like a local Craigslist. Too many people don’t realize the danger of “free to good home” ads. It’s an invitation to scum, dogfighters and more.

Ahh that answers my question way below about adoption policies in the south… He got the poor soul from craigslist… Oh the idiots that list their beloved pets there.. and free to good homes.. What are they thinking is going to happen….. Every time I read something like this a piece of my heart is ripped out… I’m surprised I have one at all….
That’s a good question on how was he able to adopt a dog?

I agree with all other posts so far. I do not see why we taxpayers in America should have to pay for his psychological evaluation. Obviously he is nuts.
I too agree with every post here. I believe the papers regarding his sentencing should be sent along with him, and if I am not mistaken, Turkey is much harsher in treating law breaking persons, and their sentencing/punishments is very very harsh.
We have enough morons to pay for with our tax dollars who are American citizens. Send this scum back and see what his country thinks of him with his sick past.
This individual, sadly, is not unlike others from this geographic region. They despise dogs, cats, goats and add women and female children to the mix. This culture has no kindness or empathy and is extremely paternalistic. What is unique about this fellow is, as mentioned earlier, he was allowed to obtain a couple animals by someone from this country who didn’t seem to care what would happen. Maybe he lied, maybe not. He’s sick, sick, sick. But so are those in this country that torture, mutilate and murder defenseless animals for any reason. He’s just another Michael Vick. God save us from these horrid, incomplete human beings.
Sadly, all these idiots from Turkey think animal abuse is just great. That’s like Jonah- a dog there that was thrown in a trash compactor. My ex-best friend, has been dating a guy from Turkey. We’re ex friends cause of him. She made her change her religion and convert to Muslim, and he didn’t let her hang out or talk to me. Her family owns a kennel! She LOVES dogs, horses, all animals. It completely baffles me what she’s thinking… and talking about MOVING to Turkey to top it all off. Are you kidding!? If I go to Turkey, it’s gonna be to kill all these jerks!
I agree that this POS should have his privates removed. God forbid that he should ever father children. Why are these foreigners allowed to come to this country for FREE schooling? We need to give FREE schooling to those that can’t afford school and have the potential. I also agree to let someone give him what he deserves. Sodamize him to the fullest extent. Let him know the feeling this poor animal felt. We need to deport all these sicks bastards. These other countries have no regard for life whether it is animal or human and yet we allow them in our country. America wake up.
I so agree with you Moe and Janet! Only one problem….he would probably enjoy being sodamized…..he’s sick, remember? Yea, and about that FREE schooling….I can’t get any FREE schooling. What’s up with that? This country is getting pretty screwed up with the way they are doing things lately. I say we let NO outsiders in for a few years, get the US cleaned up and back to taking care of their American Citizens….sorry to get political here, but it’s scum like this that makes me so angry with the US right now…..keep them ALL out, at least for a while.

I am not defending him at all, but just look at yourself, when you stare at someone in the street on a wheelchair… you feel pity and you certainly are not going to be angry with the man on the wheelchair even if he yell at ya !! but we feel pity for phisical hillness, but with mental illness we do not have any compassion…
Take him not to prison, but take him to specialists that really can love and do not judge, and give him therapy, perhaps he could offer something better to the world next time…

me too, i love my dog, and have learned how to really love her.. bybcleaning the shit on the floor, and smile, by going to the floor shop with patience when he breaks the wooden floor, by accepting that she doesnt have to come right away to me, when i call her … Sui ! Sui ! Sometimes she doesnt listen, but i accept that too… CAN YOU SAY YOU HAVE THE SAME LOVE ?

I must say one thing. There are millions of people out there that have had a lot of bad stuff done to them, grew up poor etc., etc., etc. But they still have compassion for living things. and for someone to do this kind of stuff there are no excuses. How he grew up, and what happen to him don’t cut it. We all have our crosses to bear. So yes there will be no sympathy fo anyone that would do harm to the trusting hearts of our animals. And thats everyone irreguardless if where you might hail from!
There is NO excuse for animal abuse! What will your reaction be, when this happened to a human baby instead of a dog or a cat??? Did you give this scum also the best therapy…? Victims cannot afford the best therapy and this scum will have the best therapy and pity and understanding and forgiveness?…

gippol, even if you believe a person tends to be shaped by his upbringing, parental influence and childhood environment these facts remain true: There are many people who come from the most horrible childhood environments imaginable, some have parents who are drug addicts and other assorted criminals. Some have no parents at all, and yet they become shining examples of humanity. They do not abuse animals or commit any other crimes. They do what they can to make the world better. And there individuals who have wonderful parents and every advantage that our society has to offer (Jeffrey Dahmer for instance) who turn out to be monsters. Bear in mind that this site is for dog lovers to vent their rightful outrage about animal cruelty. We don’t want to hear about how rough his childhood was. You can find some other site for that.
Sick bastard… I don’t know the laws in Kentucky, I am assuming that’s where KU is located… (not really familiar with southern colleges)….. But why my question is, was he able to adopt a dog under his status… Do the Kentucky shelters not have thorough adoption questionaires??? Here, this cretin would not have been able to adopt, as we do have the questionaires that are so vital in finding proper loving homes. I know the overwhelming population down there maybe the reason they aren’t so discriminatory about who gets a dog????? and desperate to get them out??? (guessing again) But if they had done what should be done, this and maybe a lot of other atrousities I read about down there would not happen… I don’t know.. I am not there and do not know the pressures of being so desperate to find homes. I feel so sorry for the animals he may encounter back home, not to mention Turkey is not so stellar with their animal protection laws and he will have no problem getting another animal to abuse. I agree castration than deportation in his case…. but of course it won’t happen…. what a sick sick world we live in….

KU is NOT an institution in Kentucky that I’ve ever heard of. I think it might be Kansas University.
I work in animal welfare and cruelty investigations here in Kentucky and I assure you we’re not rubes who hand out animals to any and everyone. We require paperwork, calls to their vet (if they have other animals) etc. We are thorough.
This guy is sick, mentally ill, and needs to be institutionalized instead of just “sent back”.
