The Moment before Death By Andrea, on October 28th, 2011 |
A dog peers out from a gas chamber right before the gas is turned on. This is the moment before death. I will not write anything more on this image. Your mind will fill in the blanks. The words I cannot write.

It is deeply shocking and incomprehensible to me that despite volumes of documentation and living witnesses who can attest to the horrors of the Holocaust, there are still those who would deny it. – Mark Udall.

Where was this at? Why don't states do away with this method already?
Don't know. The message with the photo was that it was taken at a shelter by an animal control officer. It's being passed around facebook. Keep in mind that not everything being passed around on FB is true. But this photo is getting it's mileage.
And well it should be passed around, as this happens in so many states – we as human beings must fight against gas chambers – this is not humane and this is not a holocaustic nation – or is it? Whether this photo was staged or not – this is most likely what they experience without a doubt – just think of what the Jews felt like when they were all put in a room, crowded and then gassed.
Unfortunately this will continue unless all people use adoption , not breeders . Every dog I have is from a shelter. Everyone loves them and when they get a dog , they go to breeders ? USE YOUR HEAD , save lives , they are great dogs that need a chance.
I've already seen this on facebook and posted it to my wall. It's heart breaking to look at, but people need to know that when you don't spay/neuter your pets, and you buy instead of adopt this is what happens. Unfortunately this is a image that will stay in my brian until I die. I hate this and it needs to stop!
It's a true picture. I wrote two articles and am in the process of a third one, this time about the horrors in Japan. I've been working with the advocates who are diligently trying to end this nightmare in our country. This was the actual picture of a dog just before the gas was turned on. My articles had two other pictures of similar scenes, but nothing close to as heartbreaking as this one is. Just looking at it brings the tears.
Not sure, but I believe this is a little Beagle dog that was rescued after surviving the "GAS CHAMBER"! How the hell he did, I have no idea, but his name is Daniel. Maybe this site will help…..
http://gma.yahoo.com/hundreds-want-death-defying-…
As i said, I'm not sure this is the same dog, but it sure looks like him. They mentioned only about 3 dogs have survived this horrible, painful, terrifying death. Poor babies. Damn! I wish this would stop! I have no idea how these people can sleep at night after putting these animals to death in such a painful, terrible way. They can't possibly have a conscience. Does it really cost that much to do this humanely?????? Please, please stop this practice, along with the heart stick.
I for one, am looking forward to seeing all these beautiful babies when I leave this hell on earth place….LOng ong from now, hopefully….
How heartbreaking. When are people going to realize that our fur babies are a GIFT from GOD. Love them, not kill them. The poor baby in this picture is just so afraid and hoping you will change your mind. Who in their right mind would take such a picture and not help? This just broke my heart to see. There is a site for the White House and when I get to a computer that doesn't drag it's feet, I will have to post it. You can start a petition there and the White House is suppose to see it. Just be patient with me until I get back to my computer.
Moe, I agree w/you. How could anyone take this picture and then just walk away? I feel sick to my stomach at the thought of what happened to this precious soul.
Darla and Moe, oh how I agree with all of you. I could not look at this when it was first posted – I needed time away from it, because I too saw it on FB. Will anxiously await info from you about the petition Moe. And I agree 100% with Terry – do not breed, adopt, until there are no more furkids in the shelters. It's a shame that humans fail these furbabies all the time.
Susie, I adopted 2 from a rescue and they are a mix of Yorkie and Poodle and I couldn't be any happier. My husband only wanted one, but when I got to the rescue there were two to chose from and they were sisters, one being the runt. I couldn't take a chance on one of them getting put to sleep, so to speak and they were sisters so I took both of them. At first my husband was a little upset, but now he has come to love them and they love him. They each have their own personalities but can't stand to be separated. Could you imagine what would have happened if they were. I am thankful for my decision everyday. I wish I had a bigger house and a bigger yard, I would adopt more. They are well fed and have lots of toys and treats and I let them learn on their own. It's take a while to train anything, but the outcome is so worth it. It really isn't much different than raising a child, after all they are babies. They love unconditionally too. You can scold them and they ignore you for a moment, but they come back with the same love they have always had. I wish I could get the word out about adoption. I actually think these fur babies have more love in them. You can find mixed breed dogs and sometimes even pure bred ones in shelters. They are just so thankful that someone cared enough to love them. I know mine are. I even went through Parvo when I first got them and paid for 24 hour care, but it was so worth it. ADOPT, ADOPT, ADOPT!!!!!
its sad and is not way to describe the pain that i feel looking at this fhoto. why?????
devastated by this photo. how many times to say NO KILL STRATEGY?
Instantly brought tears to my eyes and made my stomach flip because I had guessed what the pic was! All I can say is "I am SO sorry we treat you this way" and "WHY?"
I live in ohio and alot of the rural shelters still implement this barbaric method of murder! I read the story about Daniel and although I am thrilled that he survived, I cannot help but be annoyed with the numerous people who now want him when they weren't there for him or the other 17 dogs he watched die a horrible, long, and painful death! What do people think happens to all the animals they throw away….that they get put on fluffy white clouds or magic carpets which float to a magical animal castle where they live happily ever after?
I CAN'T TRYE MUCH AS I AM CRYING
Enough sadness. Enough tears. Enough "How could anyone…" Let me respectfully ask, "What action have YOU taken to do something to stop shelter killing?" When are American ever going to stop crying out and start really ending this shame?
When Americans stop listening to the crap spewed out from PETA, HSUS, and ASPCA. And the HSVMA, as in this gem from one of their DVMs.
http://www.hsvma.org/advocacy/news/euthanasia_by_…
EBI = Euthanasia By Injection. In other words, there is now a gold standard in killing animals. I find this statement offensive.
According to Nathan Winograd: the key components of No Kill includes:

* High Volume/Low Cost Spay/Neuter
* Coordination with Rescue Groups
* Foster Care Program
* Comprehensive Adoption Programs (Including Marketing)
* Pet Retention Programs
* Medical & Behavioral Rehabilitation
* Public Relations/Community Involvement
* Coordinated Volunteer Program
* A Compassionate Director
There are shelters that have moved to No Kill, many have not because of
One would hope that the ACO who took this picture and publicized it did so in an effort to stop the use of gas chambers.
If everyone here took this picture and posted it NOT ON WEB but within distance of any store selling mill dogs (You know the ones).
Make a poster of it. Put on it "This is where your present (fashion accessory/statement/ thought it would take care of itself/ whatever you call it) goes when YOU are tired of them."
Or "This Dog is being gassed because you won't Adopt instead."
Make T-shirt or Sweat and stand just outside pet stores don't be vocal don't say anything to give mall idea you are holding a protest. They can't stop you from standing quietly and looking. Move around near the store but do not enter. And to prevent them from saying you are loitering buy something at food court and walk back.
And send letters to that company that makes the toy dogs and features it like a fashion accessory. Teaching young kids that you need a dog (toy or real) to make you stand out with your friends is wrong. If they don't know there is responsibility with it then they are not ready for need one.
DON'T GET VOCAL HERE WE ALREADY KNOW EDUCATE THOSE WHO DON'T!
We just got our marching orders.
i stil have not get over about the dogs in the gas chamber. its unsaint!!!!!why our babies have to die this way???? its heart breaking!!!!! i do not comprehend this!!!!!!its correct about the conment in the houlocaust. i just think is thesame what it happened so many years ago.what disgusted me the most is that is happening here. in usa.!!!!!!for god sake lets do something about it.
So many tears, but all those you shed are just ONE DROP compared to the gallons you'll drain watching the North Carolina shelter gassing video http://k9nation.org/howshelterskill.html No video has change my life more than this one.
It is disgusting look at the terror in the dogs eyes, humans have caused this problem with allowing breeding to get out of hand and now the dogs have to suffer, puppy mills should be banned everyone hunted down and closed no question's asked they are cruel and the dogs are bred over and over till they are no more use then they come to a sorry end why do we have to wait for the goverment to give permission or the say so that it needs to stop, they don't care either way, look at the cruel experiements that goes on with animals the government gives permission for that Why people believe in the govenment I don't know they do not have our welfare at heart they squander tax payers money and we have no say as to where the tax payer's money should go.
I know this happens because I saw an animal crossposting after my recused Rottie passed away in August this year. we lost both our rotties after 10+ years in our family. Rescues from dogfighting ring, used as bait dog puppies. Back then the laws were even worse and the dogfighter had been led to believe by a sheriff on an abuse call if the dog wasn't turned over to them right then he would be arrested (not true) but he was thinking on his feet and scooped up the pup and took him to a local rescue. I was 200 miles away when I got a message they had an emergency adoption. It was an emergency alright, I took the pup promising to spay her and took the back way out of Dogdge never looking back. The guy was already looking to get his "property" back.
The point when Tea' passed I saw the facebook posting for a 2 yr old owner surrender due to be gassed within days. I was so attached right then we moved heaven and earth to adopt him and still almost lost him to the gas chamber because there weere no fosters. Luckily a lady saw my postings pleading for someway to get a foster to save him. She stepped up for her first foster and we drove 5 states to get him as soon as we could.. Animals are not ony gassed but gassed in such poor facilities that thay have to be gassed sevral times before they die. HORRENDOUS!
Before you come down on shelters and pounds though we must realize that some shelters don't allow public adoptions which is almost certain death for a majority of the animals EVEN lost dogs with owners, the shelter Max came from has a 4 day holding then they are killed. Others don't have micro checking abilities and actually kill dogs that have been microchipped. Because the shelter Max was at DID work with rescues and allowed photos to be taken and had pages where they shared the animals many have been saved in the last year. So PLEASE remember the shelters don't make the rules local and state governments do and provide operating funds.
You cannot keep countless numbers of animals in a small space with no food or vet care. That would also be abuse. So tread lightly on the sheltrs who are trying to save animals when they know the procedure is 3-4 days and they are to be destroyed. If we demonize them they will simply shut off the ability of rescues to come in and try to save them. It seems horrible and it is but we need to go after local government and make people aware of adoption, fostering, donating volunteering,spaying and neutering. This will help us become closer to the reality of a no kill nation.
Any place that calls itself a shelter should NOT kill the animals. You may as well call them a holding tank for death not a SHELTER. A shelter is just that "A SHELTER". Women who are battered and seek shelter, does that apply to them too? If there isn't enough food or if they stay too long should we kill them? NO And anyone that has a shelter NEEDS to have the ability to check for microchip. To have a shelter you had better be just that. Pounds also need to abide by this rule. Most don't even try to find the owner. Sometimes an animal will get lose and run and some get lost, but that doesn't mean we kill them. When an adult has Alzeimers (spelling) and they get lost do we just put them away or do we try to find out where they came from? The laws for humans should also apply for animals. I'm sorry Senrysa, but your reasoning is very poor in my eyes. If you can't do the job and do it well, then perhaps you shouldn't do it at all.
If you live in an city/county/state/country that does not allow adoptions, change the law!
Grab that politician whoever it is and EDUCATE them. Politicians are some of the most uneducated people on the planet, SO bend their ear on this one until they learn.
Remember courts only uphold the LAWS that the POLITICIANS create.
Save your energy for them, NOT HERE. Vent on them, NOT HERE. Spread the facts, not here but OUT THERE. They don't come here you have to go to them they have no clue this site exists, they don't read your venting nor your concern. Take this site to them you have your Ipads etc. Show them this face of a dog in the chambers. Tell them even convicted death row inmates have better rights than these animals who have done NOTHING!
Because this is on the World Wide Web doesn't mean the world sees it.
Even though this picture may or may not be real, it is still heart breaking and makes one think. We need to change the way animals are looked at. We need a no kill nation. Now.
Shame on us!We are the worst specie on earth!
I live in Gaston County NC. I had an animal control agent stand at my door and tell me how gassing was effective and not cruel at all… with people like this running animal controls gassing will never end.
Interesting that you post this on what was my 50th birthday–interesting because the town I grew up in, Garland, TX. has been in the news for several months because it was still using gas chambers to kill (*not* euthanize) its animal overflow population.
There's been a lot of pressure put on Garland to change this. The last I read they were supposed to have eliminated this heinous form of killing (but I won't hold my breath).
This happens in many, many states….today….NOW! If anyone thinks that gassing animals is not cruel, tell them to watch some videos on Youtube of these countless animals being piled in dumpsters and hearing them crying until there is no crying anymore….and then piling puppies on top of the dead dogs to continue the insanity again. I'm so sorry I watched that and it haunts me
