We got us a real tough guy here, my friends. A Shawnee, KS man, 25-year-old, Christopher W. Tann, beat his now ex-girlfriend’s dog on two occasions and was so proud of himself that he bragged about it to another woman that he was seeing at the time.
On the first occasion, in November, he kicked the dog so hard that 13 ribs were broken. The second incident in December he broke the dog’s tail. The dog is only a little 20-lb Lhasa Apso named Blitz and Tann decided to take out his anger at his then girlfriend on a little, innocent victim that couldn’t fight back.
The tough guy was so proud of himself that he actually contacted another woman he was dating and told her about it. Guess he figured that would impress her. Not only was she not impressed, she was so disgusted that she called the dog’s owner.
“He had bragged about snapping the dog’s tail with his hands,” Shawnee police Detective Tom Dyche said. “She was disgusted and amazed at what he had told her. That’s when she contacted the dog’s owner.”
Both women then dumped Tann and became friend with each other and Tann… well, he was arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty under “Scruffy’s Law.”
Scruffy’s Law was passed in 2006 and elevated certain types of animal abuse to a felony level.
“We had a lot of cases in the past where we’d have to go through municipal court to charge and that’s a misdemeanor, and now it’s bumped it up to a felony status,” Dyche said.
Unfortunately the max sentence, even for a felony animal abuse charge is only one month in jail and a $5K fine. He deserves a lot more than just 30 days behind bars!! What a low life bastard!

I’d love to do him what he done to this poor little dog… bastard that he is may he burn in hell 3 times over… no man is worth having around when he is like this … touch & abuse my dogs or any animal I’ll beat you till you can’t walk…..
thats one of the most disgusting things ive ever read katrina. the fact that you would hope someone would burn in hell over a dog is repulsive. people do wrong things, but come on. its a dog. nothing more than an animal.
I can only say WHAT a SCAMBAG this scmuck is….I pray his KARMA to be what he has done to the innocent and speechless….this is so hard for me, my passion in life is animals…ALL ANIMALS….I was just posting that we work so hard everyday to save the lives of these innocent beings and it seems like everyday lately we hear of another tragic torture of an innocent animal…we need SCRUUFY’s law to be updated and the sentences to be very very HARSH!

Actually, one month in jail can count for a lot provided this evil piece of excrement is provided with the right “roommate”. Just put him in the same cell with a big tough guy who has a soft spot for animals and a propensity towards violence. That’ll wipe the smug look off this idiot’s face!
Yea Susie! You go girl! I agree. I was really happy to hear the two lady’s got together and are now friends. That was a very brave, strong thing the mistress did…calling the girlfriend to tell her what happened. Kudo’s to the mistress! That damn scumbag….rot in hell!
Wow. This situation is really upsetting, IF this is what really happened. Unfortunately all they have so far is circumstantial. They don’t even have record of the text that was supposedly sent. As of right now it is a matter of he said, she said, and I know This man and I really honestly don’t think that he would do anything like this. At all.
I think the saddest thing is some of the hateful nasty comments that are being written in response. This man is being assumed guilty and I don’t think that is fair. If this really happened then yes it is sad and awful and there should be help seeked and he should be punished. But even if it is true does that warrant saying that you would do to him what he alledgedly did to this dog plus beating him till he can’t walk? Quite honestly if you think that then I am worried about your state of mind.
Hello to everyone who posted! I completely agree and cannot believe what happened! I am an old friend and ex-girlfriend of this Chris Tann and am so thankful I got away when I did. He is a sick individual who needs more than therapy and doubt he will ever change. He loves bragging about sick things he does and this is just ONE of the many nasty stories I’ve heard. He is a womanizer and abuser; Someone who deserves a severe punishment…But don’t fear, it is coming. Who could EVER beat or treat a precious animal like that, wrongly. Sick! He makes me want to puke. I too, have become friends with one the exes in this story and we can’t believe how stupid we were to waste our time on him. I can’t lie, I DID see crazy things coming. That’s why I ran!

I just can not believe that he got 3 days!! I am embarrassed that Kansas allowed the 3 days!! We need sticter laws. This should not happen again. If this had been a chid, he would not have served 3 days. Worst part, the little animal could not speak up or defend itself.
Johnson County Judge Sara Welch placed Tann, 23, on probation for two years with an underlying two-year sentence if he fails probation. He must serve 60 days in jail first.
Tann’s sentence also requires him to get a psychological evaluation, complete an anger management program and serve 200 hours of community service.
