starving dogIn early September, this picture posted by 100+ Abandoned dogs of Everglades Florida, of an emaciated doberman pup lying in the hot Florida sun went viral.  Hundreds and thousands of calls were placed to animal control, police, media and even local politicians to no avail.  Authorities wouldn’t remove the dog from the “owners” stating that no crime was being committed. Read the background HERE.

Finally, after the dog was removed and returned due to the law ,  due to an outstanding warrant, D’Anthony Davis was arrested and his wife was later arrested as well after causing a ruckus.  Both Dutchess, the emaciated doberman and another dog, a puppy named Diamond, were removed from the home.

Now it is with a happy heart that I share with you the latest news, both dogs have been surrendered by their “owner” and are now preparing for loving forever homes!

100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida shared the news they received…

Hello Amy and Carol,
We have great news to share and so many thank you’s to deliver! Last night, the owner provided an owner surrender affidavit relinquishing Duchess and Diamond. She was scheduled to appear in court this morning to respond to our petition for custody, but opted instead to surrender the dogs. The next phase in their journey will be adoptions into their forever homes to start their new lives as happy, healthy and loved pups! As of today, we have an incredible match for Diamond and will be processing her paperwork following her spay surgery tomorrow. She’s such a good girl!

We are not encouraging a massive campaign that will result in droves of willing and able adopters for Duchess, but instead prefer to continue carefully screening prospective parents who have the necessary skills to bring her along and help her reach her full potential, with love and patience. We have been working with them to develop their individual personalities and think they will flourish apart. They enjoy each other’s company during the day, but are equally comfortable being with their separate fosters at night. That’s a great start for them and has done wonders for their positive training. With the outpouring of support received, we know that very soon we all will be celebrating Happy Tales for them!

Thank you so much for your help along the way and all that you and the 100+ team is doing to help animals in need!

Susan, and the entire team of staff dedicated to helping Duchess and Diamond!

Dutchess and Diamond

As you can see, after just a couple weeks with TLC and some good food, Dutchess is already looking so much better and both pups look happy!

Wonderful news and goes to show what a dedicated group of people can accomplish!  Much thanks to all those involved in the rescue of those sweet pups… second chance coming up! :)
