Passionate when it comes to my canine companions as well as dogs everywhere, it's my mission to raise awareness of any issues that affect them, from their health, food and nutrition and training to their welfare. Canine advocacy is something that everyone who cares about dogs needs to be aware of and we all need to share that and raise our voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Vick Ordered to Repay $20M, Old HS Pulls Jersey & More

Just thought I’d pass along the latest few tidbits on Michael Vick for those who cared.  Nothing big, just more of the same, Vick being his own worst enemy and the hole getting deeper and deeper.

On Tuesday and arbitrator ruled that the Falcon’s were entitled to recoup $19.7 million in bonuses paid to Vick from a 10-year, $130 million contract extension Vick signed after the 2004 season.

“We are certainly pleased with today’s ruling by NFL Special Master Stephen Burbank,” the Falcons said in a release. “It is the first step in a process that our club has undertaken in an attempt to recoup significant salary-cap space that will allow us to continue to build our football team today and in future years.”

Well, I wish them luck but with two banks suing him for a couple mil each that he seems unable to pay for some reason, wonder if they’ll ever actually see a dime of this? Y’know, if he really wants to try to make things right, why doesn’t he start there. At this point I’m thinking the green is about the only thing he has worth anything. His reputation is shot to hell and taking one little ‘Animal Empathy Class’ at PETA doesn’t really cut it. It’s just more spin.

And in other Vick news, Texas Tech banned the sale of a T-shirt bearing the likeness of Vick hanging a dog, the mascot of rival A&M and Vick’s old HS pulled his jersey.

Warwick High School in Newport New, VA, where Michael Vick played for 2 seasons, pulled his jersey from the trophy case.

“It stayed up through the allegations, but they did decide to take it down once he admitted some guilt,” said Michelle Price, a spokeswoman for the Newport News Public Schools.

Warwick HS Principal, Varinda Robinson, made the decision to remove the jersey after Vick’s plea bargain.

Price went on to say the there was no pressure or controversy, they just thought it was the right thing to do and she doubted it would be returned to the trophy case.

And just an interesting sidenote; SI polled 278 NFL players and asked them if they would let their kid wear a Vick jersey.  Came out almost 50:50 on average but among the 24 and under crowd  63% said ‘no.’  Looks like not only has he lost fans but also much of the support from fellow players.

Looks like his star has not only fallen, we’re talking big time crash and burn here!
