Maryanne Adams, of Greenwood Lake, NY was convicted of a misdemeanor charge of ‘failing to provide sustenance’ after worker from the Warwick Valley Humane Society found her 80 lb St. Bernard-collie mix, Princess, motionless in the backyard, eyes were matted shut and she had no food in her digestive tract in February.

That’s right, a misdemeanor! And not animal abuse, only of ‘failing to provide sustenance!’

So a once beautiful dog is dead because a woman starved it to death and again the law looks at it as only a triviality and yet another ‘slap on the wrist’ sentence!

I do have to say that Warwick Town Justice Daniel Coleman did say that he would have sentenced Adams to jail for a year if she didn’t have three her children – ages 4, 6 and 9. I wonder how well they’re cared for?

And Adams’ sentence, 100 hours of community service, a $1,000 fine to Orange County and $300 in restitution to the Warwick Valley Humane Society. To make this story even sadder, this is a dog that Adams adopted from the Humane Society in June of last year. She would have been better off euthanized than starved to death, cold and alone, in pain and agony.

This is just so beyond a shame! Why the hell would she adopt this dog only to tie it outside and ultimately starve it to death? And the Town Justice hesitates to imprison her because she has children? I hope someone checked on the condition of her children!
