Tiny Dog Aims for Big Record

DancerDancer, an itty bitty, teeny tiny, little chihuahua is aiming to be Guinness World Record top dog for smallest dog. My own two furbabies being Dogster members, we’re quite familiar with fellow Dogster, cute little Dancer and his wonderful mom who had devoted so much time to needy dogs at a shelter and rescue organization until vision loss due to Congenital Toxoplasmosis caused her to lose her drivers license.

Here is Dancer’s ‘Arrival Story’ from his Dogster profile, as told by his mom, Jenny.

I must share how much I love my little Dancer. This little guy has given me a lot to look forward to from the day he was born. It all started when I received a phone call from a friend whose neighbor had moved out of their apartment and left this pitiful little female Chihuahua. I ran right over to check on her. She was underweight, dehydrated and pregnant! I took her to my vet who informed me that all in all she would be ok. Read the rest of this entry

Starving, Injured Dogs Found at Vick’s House

Associated Press – (APTN)

Apr. 27, 2007. 02:08 PM EST

Police conducting a drug investigation raided a house owned by Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick and found dozens of dogs, some injured and emaciated. (April 27)

Piecing things together it looks like during a drug investigation, police raided a home owned by Michael Vick. Stories go on to say that Vick does not live there nor is he there very often, his cousin resides at the property.

Ok, so he doesn’t live there but he owns the property and has been seen on the property. Sounds to me already like he’s going for the ‘I didn’t know anything about it’ defense which it total BS!! There is no way he didn’t know what was going on! It’s not as if this all took place inside the house, there were numerous outbuildings where these poor abused dogs were kept, chained and cruelly neglected! I can’t wait to hear what high priced mouth pieces have to say about this!

You heard it right, another dog food added to the already massive list of recalled dog and cat foods!

Updated: Pet food recall expands to new dog food – SmartPak says on its Web site that it’s recalling a single production run of LiveSmart Weight Management Chicken and Brown Rice Dog Food.

The company said the food contained rice protein concentrate contaminated with melamine, an industrial chemical linked to the deaths of scores of pets in the United States, Canada and South Africa. Three other companies that also put the tainted concentrated rice protein in cat or dog food have recalled some products. A fifth pet food company that received the contaminated ingredient has not been named. (From The Oregonian 4/24.07 – For the full story Click here)

Selecting the Right Breed of Dog

Selecting the Right Breed of Dog
Jimmy Cox

While there are no essential personality differences between the
sexes of dogs, there is no doubt that some personality
variations exist among the various breeds. Though rather minor,
they are significant enough so that they should be inquired into
in order that the particular breed can meet individual needs.
This fact may be of special importance where there are children
in the household. The disposition of an animal certainly must be
compatible with the personality of the child. Some breeds have a
tendency to be peppy, alert, excitable, or noisy, while others
are generally quiet, lazy, or phlegmatic. Some are more likely
to become one-man dogs, while others seem to want to encompass
the whole world in their sphere. Read the rest of this entry

Unfortunately scams are nothing new and with the internet becoming so widely used, internet scams are on the rise. It seems like scammers are now targeting dog and puppy lovers as well as reputable breeders. Through a little research I’ve come across a couple of versions.

One version, as seen the this story from WBZTV.com in Boston targets people looking for puppies online.

Internet scam targets puppy lovers(WBZ) BOSTON Pet lovers are being warned about a new scam involving bogus offers for puppies.

Joy Schick recently saw a tempting newspaper ad offering a purebred Yorkshire terrier for $400.

There are signs to look for: The dogs are out of state and are deeply discounted. Usually, the purported breeder will correspond only via e-mail. Read the rest of this entry

A Boy and His Dog, A Story of True Love

Ok, get your tissues out for this one, it’s a real tear-jerker! True love comes in many forms and this story shows it on quite a few levels. I wanted to share this because eveyone in this story is a hero in their own way and the love this shows touched me so deeply.

From Cleveland.com, The Plain Dealer, thank you for writing and sharing this story!

All he wanted was a plain brown dog.

No froufrou pooch or designer breed for Chris Kuzma. Those fancy dogs always can find a home. This boy wanted to pour his love into the kind of dog other people ignored.

For most of his life, it had been just Chris, his mom, Karen, and his sister, Nikki. They didn’t have much money, but they were the kind of family that closed ranks and made it work. Read the rest of this entry

Puppy mills are a true atrocity! Dogs are kept in the most obscene conditions and bred every heat cycle until they can’t be bred anymore, then they are thrown away like garbage. Auctions, like the one mentioned in the story below, indiscriminately sell dogs to the highest bidder. They don’t care where it’s going or what will happen to it. Many of the dogs being auctioned come from puppy mills and most go to puppy mills. They live lives of despair, without hope.

The only thing that will make a difference is to educate people. Most people don’t realize that that cute little dog in a puppy store comes from a puppy mill or those ads you see online are for mass produced dogs bred in the most extreme of conditions. We need to get the word out – Don’t Support Puppy Mills!!

This story has been heating up for a while as Holmes County, Ohio becomes a hotbed of protester activity.

It all started when animal rights activists in Geauga County scared away the Buckeye Dog Auction earlier this month. Read the rest of this entry
